^30 gut...Safety issues

I think the safety play has been shakey so far. Would you agree? I think Goldson and especially Jeron Johnson have dissappointing so far in their short tenure.

To me, Trenton Robinson and Duke have played the best of the group, Jarret has been really good as a rookie...

Yeah, I was saying earlier that Dash and Jeron weren't active enough to my liking. But with S its hard to assess one way or another if they're not involved in the play. So my gripe is more about being active...being around the ball then anything else. Dash did miss a tackle vs the Steve Smith but that's one play, I'm not going to go overboard about it.

I'm with you though if I had to pick starting S from what I've seen I would do Duke and Trent.

No injuries. Please. What happens if, heaven forbid, Colt gets hurt?

Or maybe Terrance Knighton will get a shot.

Honestly, I expected Jeron Johnson to take that SS position easily but Duke HAS been a nice surprise thus far.

I thought with the off season additions the secondary was going to be much improved, but so far that isn't the case. I am not even that thrilled with Culliver. Knowing he has character issues seeing him commit a few stupid penalties in the first two games then getting tossed for fighting against the Ravens, makes
me think he really needs to wise up.

The problem is that we didnt get the right guy for what the defense is trying to do. Culliver is not a zone guy, he is a man to man guy. We tend to do zone in our secondary. This is like the Eagles signing the CB from the Raiders years ago as a FA (forgetting his name). He was considered the top man to man guy available in FA (not best period just best one on the market at that time) but they put him in a zone where he was pretty bad.

Its the same with the Hatcher signing last year. He is not a read and react player. He is a one gap player. Read and react he is below average imo. One gap, he is pretty good at it. We signed him and put him in a read and react defense and his performance didnt equal the money we were paying him. I was really hoping we would get away from signing stats and sign players that were system guys.

Barry's defense has been incredibly vanilla in the preseason.

The style of play should look a lot different week 1 against Miami.

I expect a lot more blitz and man looks.
