And removing Griffin only removes part of the distraction, Jay and the Redskins as whole create plenty of distraction all on their own. For me removing Griffin from the team just removes Griffin as a fallback option, it moves a safety net. If I'm Scott I can definitely see the value in hedging on Jay's all in push with Kirk by hanging on to Griffin.

I wanted to keep the 16 mil separate because it certainly in and of itself is valid reason for Griffin to be off the team. But, I'm guessing that if the team approached Griffin to alter/rescind/restructure the option/contract to stay on the team I bet he would be open to it. If he's not then, Vaya con Dios.
Can I ask why you think Griffin would be open to altering the 5th year option? Cooley in his radio show said he wouldn't if it was him.

Realistically RG3 is going to have to do a new contract one way or the other. Whether it's here or somewhere else.

Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season

This whole griffin conversation is old now. We drafted a heisman bust. That's it. How many years does a team keep a heisman bust?
Get rid of dead weight. The. End.
This whole thing has gotten ridiculous. I was all about the trade to get him, and all about his play in year one. He has regressed every year since.
I don't have stats, or fancy talk to back this up. Just what I've seen and heard. He has shown negative progress. On the field. Jg has a 5 year contract and is in year number 2. Griffin is on year 4 of a 4 year contract with a 1 year extension. This one's simple. Gruden has more time left than griff. So talking about how if Gruden fails being the reason griff should stay doesn't add up. That's assuming you KNOW Gruden is getting tossed after this year. For all intents and purposes....Griffin is way closer to the door, based on the contracts.

If he doesn't think he will be cut, he wouldn't alter the contract. In other words, if he thinks his relationship with DS overrides the football side, why would he.

And also, maybe he wants to use it to force the team to cut him so he can try to go somewhere he wants instead of having the team dictate the trade talks.

When any of those break down however, so does he...quickly.

Ask him to perform at a high level over a period of time and you will be disappointed. He is too careless with the ball, too pre-determined with where the ball will go and doesn't rally from adversity well.

If he starts all 16 games, he will probably put up good numbers on paper.. 3200 or so yards, 5 or 6 300 yard games, probably 18-24 TD with 14-18 INT.. The reality however will probably result in a 3-5 win season and fans hoping 'that he can put it all together with a full offseason of being the starter'.

Ultimately Cousins is fools gold.
I would bet everything I own that if KC starts 16 games he will easily surpass 3,200 yards.

Also, perhaps all of the things that you say that he struggles with, just maybe he's gotten better at handling those things with another year under his belt in the system. But regardless, this is probably not a playoff team, no matter who is under center. But obviously KC gives us the best chance to win out of the three. And according to Gruden, KC has made the most improvement out of the three.

Not that I disagree, but is it possible he was coerced/nudged into backtracking?

So you would bet everything you own that KC can throw for 200 yards per game? Thats not exactly a very high bar tbh. Im going to go out on a limb here and say if Cousins starts all 16 games and only averages 200 yards per game, that we just flat out suck this year. That would take a monumental improvement from our def as well as Alfred and Jones gaining 1000 rushing yards each to still somewhat but not totally suck.

I agree. He was on pace for 5000 yards 31 TD and 27 INT last year. If he does that the year. With a good running game. It could mean 7-9 wins

Re: Cousins to start 2015 Season

god it sucks being a Redskins fan sometimes. Most here are 7-9 wins and I would be happy... Man so much for the glory days... Most fans now don't even have any idea what the glory days were.

Exactly, it was a put down to even think that he would throw for such a small number of yards when his track record says otherwise.
