Re: WEEK 1 : Redskins vs Dolphins Prediction Thread

Ah what the heck? Let's be optimistic before the reality sets in:

Redskins 31, Dolphins 23

Cousins looks better than expected -- 23 for 33 for 285 yards and 2 TDs, 1 INT
Morris and Jones shred the Miami D for 175 yards on the ground (Morris 100 yards and 1 TD and Jones for 75 and 1 TD).

Cobra Kai nails a 49 yarder.

Suh gets into our backfield and comes away with 3 sacks in the first half, but then Jay wakes up and does bubble screens and a few shovel passes to neutralize it thereafter, leading to some good YAC for Jones and Morris.

All the pundits chalk up the Redskins win to the Dolphins laying an egg rather than good play on our part, and the Redskins move up from a power ranking of 32 to 30.

I'm with you.We gave up the 2nd most sacks in the league last yr and despite drafting an off lineman #1 it doesnt look improved. My gut feeling is the pressure forces Kirk into some turnovers.
Unless Jay shows something on offense that he hasnt shown in preseason this looks like a loss to me.
If I was the coach I would have Kirk running the pistol as much as possible to slow down the Dolphins pass rush and they wont be expecting it.I wouldnt have Kirk run with it as much as RG did in 2012,but he would need to keep it at least a couple times to make it legit.I do not fear injury on his part,he's smarter than Griff and not built like a stick.
If we run the same vanilla offense I think they stuff the run and force Kirk into turnovers

OK -- 2015 team captains:

Offense: Trent Williams (hard to argue with this)
Defense: Dashon Goldson (say wha...? no Kerrigan? DHall? a guy who just got here and may or may not be a solution at that position?)
Teams: Tress Way (sure -- why not)

I know it doesn't really matter, but Goldson seems an off choice.

C'mon, man! Show a little optimism while we still can!

Sacks last year: Many of them were caused by RGIII's inability to operate in the pocket.

OL Not Improved: That may take some time, but Moses looks improved and Scherff is a keeper, so it should get better in time.

Vanilla Offense: Preseason is all about evaluating players, thus the vanilla offense. The major difference in our offense during the regular season will be seeing our big-time playmakers operate. All Kirk needs to do is get the ball into the hands of his playmakers on target and on time.

I'm surprised he wasn't cut during the offseason. He didn't do much last year either.

I don't think Roberts is here next year. May be one of those things where they held onto him b/c rookies, well, are rookies. Crowder looked great but is he REALLY ready to step in? Would love to see him as the No. 3/slot guy by mid-year.

To me, Grant seems like he SHOULD be a slot receiver but I have read several reports saying he doesn't play the slot.

... another one of those "I was wrong when ... " moments. Thought he was going to be a really solid pick-up for us. Nope.

D.Jax & Garcon are more of an interchangeable 1A/1B. Imagine if we hadn't signed DJax and Roberts was our No. 2 WR? Yuck.

Re: WEEK 1 : Redskins vs Dolphins Prediction Thread

I am concerned about the TE's impact on the run game.
Our TE situation was already sketchy in run blocking w/ Jordan as the starter and Compton as the blocking TE. One doesn't block well and the other can't catch, at all.
Its a dead give away to the defense.

Now with Compton banged up we're in a even tougher spot because we're forced to try and get TE McCoy ready to be blocking TE in a pinch.

Its gonna be interesting to see how they approach the running game.
Will base personnel runs work w/ Jordan blocking the POA?
Will McCoy get enough plays down to contribute?
Or will they use formations without a TE blocking the POA as the base of the run game.
Other WCO teams like Seattle and GB often go I-Form 3 wide with no TE in their run game package.

I hope they get the run game going somehow.

Re: WEEK 1 : Redskins vs Dolphins Prediction Thread

I couldn't stand what Lavar Arrington said the other day about people just looking bad when they get to DC, mainly because I think he contributed to a fair amount of his own issues. In the season he played for the Giants (?) I don't recall him blowing anyone away. But.... man it seems like we get a lot of guys who never live up their potential.

Yeah, TE is a big issue right now especially when you'd really like to have 2 TE's on the field. Hopefully McCoy gets up to speed quick..

It's going to be tough Sunday to run the edge if there's no one there to set the edge. Inside is dead with Suh there. I expect the running game to struggle but hopefully the passing game is clicking enough to keep MIA from bringing the house on every play..

What's even worse is that I just got a look at our schedule and couldn't figure who we can beat. Not one game where I could comfortably say: "OK, pretty sure we can win this one."

Probably the most negative I've been in my 50 (!) years of being a Redskins fan. Man, I hope I'm wrong about this...
