Re: Skins v. Pats Pregame Thread

I think any hope we have is to play lots of nickel w Hall and Culliver on the outside and Breeland and Jarrett on the inside. If we do not have all our corners, gonna be tough.

If thompson is back, id like to see that kinda fake bootleg toss back to thompson play we saw a few times against the falcons (i think it was that game). some new looks. maybe a reverse to crowder. some screens to desean. lots of rub plays.

Supposedly Belichick really respects desean and would role McCourty over top of Desean almost the entire game so maybe .. just maybe .. we see a lot of 15-20 yard passes to garcon and slot guys in the middle of the field. it seems like that inside slant was money last year but has rarely been called this year.

really interested to see what our coaches have dialed up after the bye and to see desean's impact on dictating D looks/schemes.

This is a game where running the ball should be an after thought. Other than QB we have skill position players (WR/TE, even a decent pass blocking line) that can make plays. I would prefer to see a shoot out game, and let KC have his hand at it. I don't expect to win either way, so might as well make a go of it. If we try to run, it simply means we put up FG's to their TD's.

2015 NFL Team Rushing Stats - National Football League - ESPN

there is opportunity to run against the Pats, the key is look at the rushing attempts...its near bottom of the league because teams get behind and have to throw...not because it cant be done.

And Ive never heard running means we kick field goals.

Shoot out with Cousins? that doesnt sound like a game plan.

Id like us to go the smash-mouf...speaking of smash, is Jizzele coming to the game?

Re: Skins v. Pats Pregame Thread

Sure you can run against them, because they build up leads, and then start throwing when they know you have too. I would much rather come out aggressively, and get ahead of the curve and go back to the run then come out in the run, get behind, and have to throw.

As for the comment on Cousins/Shootout, he has led several quick hit drives effectively. I think the narrative about him needs to change, or at least give him an opportunity to try and change it.

Bottom line, the Patriots are a team who can take a rushing team's best shots, then put up 3TD's in the 20 minutes and win the game. Cousins has led several up tempo quick score drives, so start with those, and go from there.

And in your stats, they are # 7 against the rush, I don't think that means you can rush easily, and if it does they are #12 (same source) against the pass so let's be aggressive and attack their weakness when they are expecting us to run, not once they know we have to pass. (And yes, an underlying assumption of mine is that our defense will not stop Brady more than 2 drives, maybe 3)

getting it to 3rd and managable is key. at 3rd and 7 or more, i think we will be playing to the Pats strength.

I agree, and if Reed and Crowder are healthy, we ought to have good options in the quick hit passing on first and 2nd. Also Garcon in intermediate routes should have opportunities.

In this situation, I look at more yard per carry, 4.2, than yards per game. 4.2 ypc is the highest of those ranked yard per game in the top 14, so to me its more middle of the pack.

I just dont see that "scary" defense. Chandler Jones, a couple linebackers are probably their most talented players on defense. Their secondary plays well as a unit, but each one is beatable with the right match up.

OTM
I dont know if its 3rd and long that plays into their hands....but more than opposing teams down 2 touchdowns in the second quarter and folks go one domensional which does...
abandoning the run is the dumbest thing we can do.

Obviously we disagree, but I think saying abandoning is not exactly what I am pushing for. I think we should come out pass strong, and mix runs in, not run heavy and using passes at obvious points. We have several good passing weapons we ought to use and not be tied to a mindset of rushing good/passing bad. KC has shown he is capable of driving an offense down the field, and we ought to see if he is capable of it for a whole game.

Re: Skins v. Pats Pregame Thread

Redskins corner Chris Culliver is not practicing today. He had been limited the past two days but looked good during one-on-one work. Culliver has been bothered by inflammation in his knee. Corners DeAngelo Hall and Bashaud Breeland are practicing.
-John Keim

culliver was going pretty hard in practice up until today. i assume they are giving him 2 days off to reduce swelling so he is a go sunday.

hello cortisone!

really excited we may have everyone except the IRs gallette, lauvau.

There is usually one NFL game a week that the outcome makes no sense, I am hoping this is that game.
