Re: Chip Kelly Fired

Lurie just couldn't let him handle personnel anymore. Chip saw the writing on the wall and said no to that to get canned. Now apparently he'll take a straight coaching job. What he really needs is to go back to college or be an OC for a few years. Going back to being a coordinator he could learn a little more about handling pros. Belichek did it and now look. I do feel pretty stoked we're not the dysfunctional team in the division. Maybe we're the only one right now. Certainly some turmoil. Giants are a mess and what exactly has Garrett ever done to keep that job? Hell he got saved this year with a built in excuse. Bizarro world for us.

Re: Chip Kelly Fired

I dunno, everything I read about Kelly's offense was that it was very basic but that tempo and execution were supposed to make up for its simplicity. His only success came with the remnants of Reid's roster which was actually pretty damn good.

To me, that's K-Gun / Muddle Huddle stuff. Yes, he was a lousy personnel guy but not willing to give him a pass on the x's and o's at this point. With better personnel (Shady, DJax, Maclin), sure it was a success. However, it always struck me as more smoke and mirrors than as a sustainable game plan.

Wish he was still there. I predict that the only success he will ever have is on the college level. He will never be a good coordinator b/c he is a one trick pony and is unlikely to learn and implement other coaches methods. He will never turn a franchise around as a coach b/c his system only works if it has talented players.

He's just not a pro.

Re: Chip Kelly Fired

i dunno, i'm sure he'll get another shot, and his offenses ran pretty well with not amazing QBs. definitely shouldn't be allowed near personnel discussions, but he's done a lot better than most other first time college-> NFL coaches.

I mean, i wouldn't want him as my team's HC, but there are plenty of mediocre head coaches that manage to get 2nd 3rd and 4th jobs in the NFL.

This is all quite humorous.
The rest of NFC implodes and for once the Redskins look competitive and competent.
This is a good week.
Tonight I will toast Chip Potato Face Kelly with some Jim Beam Devils Cut.

Re: Chip Kelly Fired

I felt that his up tempo offense just wasn't well suited to the NFL. When they scored, they scored too quickly. When they went three and out, it seemed to happen in the blink of an eye. Then they put heir defense right back on the field without adequate rest. By the 4th quarter, when most NFL games are won or lost, their defense was gassed.

Re: Chip Kelly Fired

The Patriots run a lot of up tempo stuff. It's not the scheme. It always comes down to players and how you fit them into your scheme. That's where Chip failed. He would have been better off making a move for Tyrod Taylor over Bradford.

And sorry but you just can't run off Jackson, Maclin and McCoy and expect to keep your job.

Its tough to call him a good coach. He may be good x and o...jury out imo, but he doesn't handle professional athletes very well and he alienated his locker room.

Plus the whole GM thing, he has proven to be effing terrible at that. No NFL team will give him personnel control every again.

This is exactly right. He's a bad NFL coach, but a good NFL offensive coordinator. Offensive coordinator's job is to call plays and put players in position to succeed on offense. NFL head coach's job is to keep the team together, oversee the operation, motivate, delegate, and lead men. Kelly was bad at all of the things required of an NFL head coach, but great with all of the things required of an offensive coordinator.

And he was an even worse GM.

Re: Chip Kelly Fired

Murray will be so much better next year. Whoever they get to be the HC is highly likely to employ a more traditional rushing attack, running from under center, etc.

I doubt Murray gets back to his 2014 Dallas productivity because he won't have that same stud offensive line and no Bill Callahan, but he'll finally be able to gain a head of steam and run downhill. He'll get back to 1000+ yards.

RB won't be their problem. QB will be a disaster. There's no reason for Bradford to want to return, he'll look at the Eagles on the same footing as any other NFL team in need of a QB, they're a team with a new head coach with whom he'll need to establish a rapport. They have Sanchez under contract, it will probably be him and a rookie.

Eagles have a lot of problems on the Oline. JPeters is a year older, still effective when not injured. Lane Johnson has not panned at RT, probably a below average starter by NFL standards. Jason Kelce at Center is still good-very good player. But their guards are horrific.

They have a lot of work to do along the line. I think Demarco Murray would be great at Dallas or here in DC, but Eagles have too many questions along the line and with future scheme.

As for Bradford, terrible scheme fit for Kelly, but I think his future with the Eagles depends on the HC hire. I think Bradford will be highly sought after if he hits the market. The Eagles have god aweful WRs...lotta drops

Re: Chip Kelly Fired

Kelly wasn't a bad coach-he got decent seasons out of the likes of Mile Vick, Nick Foles, and Mark Sanchez! But as a General Manager he's Millenesque. I also think the poster that said he treats grown men like college kids has a point, too. The player-coach relationship needs to be different in the pros for that reason and I don't think he transitioned in that regard very well. DeSean Jackson is a case in point.

And can anyone see any future at all on Bradford at this point? He's an injury prone Captain Checkdown. I'm tired of hearing how next year will be his breakout year. No; it won't. Dude isn't all that special and is made of glass to boot.

Totally agreed on the state of the o-line. Keep in mind that so much better for Murray means something better than 700 yards, which is what he's got this year.

I imagine 3.9 yards per carry, 1100 yards, as they try to go three yards and a cloud of dust while they try to develop a rookie QB (I think Bradford takes an offer somewhere else).

I think you and I are saying the same thing, they'll be terrible. But Murray will fit better.

Re: Chip Kelly Fired

I think Coughlin is next in the East...No way I see him back next year

Hearing on sports radio that Tennessee got rid of Wissenhunt because he wasn't a good locker room coach and was cold when dealing with the FO/organization. That's sorta the same critic of Dip Shit Chip. Hearing Cleveland and Miami more realistic possibility...I think Chip would be a disaster in Miami. They have serious problems in the locker room and Front office.

I imagine Philly sports radio is a gold mine today. Idiot after idiots calling in and freakin out.

If you troll the Philly message boards for sheer laughter its a beautiful day...you have the Chip Kelly apologist on one side and the eff you dip shit Chip on the other side. Philly fans are eating themselves today, just beautiful to see the dysfunction.

Re: Chip Kelly Fired

I was terribly unimpressed with Sam Bradford. Maybe he needs to be in a traditional offense. Just seems that if you knock him around or get anyone near him he folds. Plus he has no mobility at all. Would not want him at all as my starter.
