when u have a guy like JReed things will be much easier on u, he's basically a #1 WR if u think about it.

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)

Many of you are talking about drafting a LG, we don't need one Kouandjio (from everything I read he has nasty attitude) will win that job next year. We do need a C.

Arie Kouandjio eager to turn 'nasty streak' loose for Washington Redskins | AL.com

Strengths:
Strong run-blocker
Gets movement in the ground game
Can handle heavy nose tackles and undersized speed-rushers
Powerful drive-blocker
Flashes heavy hands
Athletic interior lineman
Ability to sustain blocks
Physical
Can display a mean streak
Good technique with hand placement
Reliable in short yardage
Good feet
Quick to the second level
Scheme flexibility, ability to work in a man or zone scheme
Ability to stay on his feet
Improved pass-protector in college
Anchors well against bull-rushers
Durable
Experienced
Upside
High floor
Safe pick

Weaknesses:
Had some pass protection issues early in his career
Strong, but physically overwhelming
Has some stiffness

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)

Our oline is fine guys yes we need a C and G but scot and Bill calahan will have that under control. Our main worries will be staying healthy enough to make a long run. Look at how young we are and all those guys already got great experience. We lost because we are not ready for the moment yet but just wait until next yr around this time when we will be right back in the playoffs. I'm not worried at all

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)

My draft priority in a perfect world where each player in every round was equally good:

1. DE (Hatcher and Golston are probably gone)
2. NT (time for young long term answer)
3. CB (we need depth here)
4. Safety (Johnson was a bust and Goldson/Hall are getting up there. Duke is injury prone)
5. RB (Morris is probably gone)
6. TE (need depth behind Reed/Paul)
7. Anyone that can play special teams

I would like more picks to get a G/C. Hopefully Kory and Shawn come back healthy next year and we can get some depth in free agency as needed.

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)

Clemsoning is still alive and well. Give up an onside kick and a kick return for a touchdown. And let a TE who hadn't caught a TD all year dominate them.

Damn, football has sucked the last 3 days.

One interesting guy we had on the PS and just resigned for next year is Lynden Trail. He's raw and needs development but has nice size as a DE at 6'7" 269lbs.

Sure for some coaches that is true for other coaches not so much. For me Jay falls into the not so much category. Net-net a "bluechip" WR is gonna have more impact on Jay's offense then a RB.

Everyone has different visions of the team they want and how to build it.
But, I think first a objective view of both where the current team is AND the vision the current HC and GM might have play a role in making the projections about draft.

That being said its tough to make a list of needs in order because the draft for me is about drafting the BPA and hopeful that addressing a position of need.

So in that vain if quickly grade out the position groups based on level of production and depth and mix in overall impact delivered vs expected...this is what I get.....

DEF:
DL--D
ILBs--D (scheme might be the cause)
OLBs--B
CBs--D
S--C
Pass Rush--Never, ever, have enough

OFF:
QB--B
RB--B w/ Alf C w/o
WR--C-
TE--C
OL--B

My main problems on offense:
Lack of WR that consistently wins
Lack of Edge blocking in the run game
Lack of Inside push in the run game/shotgun snap consistency

Main problems on defense:
Stopping the run (our rush defense actually got worse/part I think is scheme related)
Pass coverage
Pass rush

Trying to prioritize:
(1) WR (2) DL (3) Pass Rusher (4) CB (5) TE (6) OL (7) ILB (8) QB (9) S (10) RB

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)

^30gut I think McC vision with the personnel over rules Jay's offense. I still think Defense will be the primary focus this offseason.

But an injuried/fumbling Matt Jones and an Alfred Morris who is on his way out leaves us with clear Starting Running Back issues. We can look Chris Thompson who is another piece, who is another RB with an extensive injury history.

We need multiple Running Backs additions and like I stated before, I could see 2 new running backs on the roster opening day along side Matt Jones.

He's not a top tier QB, I'd hesitate before even putting him in tier two.

We won't be lost without him.
I couldn't agree more. Offer him what he is worth, and it's a good thing you aren't the one to figure that out.

It must be a shared vision, I don't view it as Scott vs Jay. Scott is providing the pieces for Jay's vision, he's providing the pieces for him. If Jay asks for a pipe wrench Scott isn't going to hand him a screwdriver.

I would just re-sign Alf. I wouldn't want to dig a hole and then have to turn around and fill it.

And if they let Alf walk then they gotta be confident in Matt Jones as their lead back. I agree we should draft a RB but for me for this team its just not a priority compared to other areas.

Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)

Even if you go with Jones, my concern is the constant rotation at running back. The only success I felt like we had was either a result of the line earlier in the season or having backs like Morris get into a rhythm. I don't know many backs that aren't Darren Sproles who come in for a single carry and take it to the house.

I think its evident to most that Alfred Morris is not in the plans. Matt Jones still green.
