Re: Coach Changes: Firings/Hirings

It has become pretty obvious that NFL owners basically have no idea how to hire a good head coach. Pittsburg probably does it the best. Hire a guy and stuck with him basically forever. Cincy too...but they're mostly just too cheap to fire and pay two guys at once.

Re: Coach Changes: Firings/Hirings

Joe Gibbs was a "who the hell is that?" hire with no HC experience and only 3 years of OC experience.

You never know what is going to happen.

I would be most likely to bet on the 49ers not recovering for a while though....

Re: Coach Changes: Firings/Hirings

NFL Network's Ian Rapoport reports the Eagles are interviewing Jim Schwartz for their open defensive coordinator position Tuesday.

It would be a surprise at this point if Schwartz is not named the defensive coordinator, with an announcement coming perhaps as early as Tuesday afternoon. Schwartz was not in the league last season, but he led a dominant Bills defense in 2014. One point of concern could be the transition to Schwartz's 4-3 base scheme, but the personnel department will make the switch work if Schwartz is who new coach Doug Pederson wants.

Really bad news for us. Guy is proven...looks like we could be bitten twice by him

philly's roster is still bad, so they'd have to fix that first.

Schwartz is a good hire for Philly. It seemed like their defense had some talent, particularly in the front seven and, IMHO, it seemed the D was just being forced to overcome an inept and unproductive offense (although I could be remembering it wrong).

However, this is a team with deep problems and, even if the D is competitive, I don't see that offense going anywhere anytime soon.

That is a great hire for Philly. Honestly puts them back at the head of the NFC East even with an unproven head coach. The defense will keep them in every game.

We have 3 DC's, Barry, Fewell and Manusky. I say we have the edge.

Not exactly how it works.

I know that, but 3 guys with DC experience that can collaborate with each other gives you an edge.

I'm not sure that's a good thing, each guy probably has his own style and there could be friction if the assistants recommend ideas and Barry ignores them. I don't have a problem having 3 quality guys on the staff, but they best know their roles.

Not surprised by this one bit.

Re: Coach Changes: Firings/Hirings

I find it hard to believe.

Mike wants desperately to coach again. I've heard enough Mike pressers to think he is willing to say anything. And if all it would've taken to get a National Football League Head Coaching job again was to say...~'Yeah, I can make it work with Kaep.' I fully believe, whether Mike actually wanted/intended to make it work with Kaep, that he would absolutely say that he would. Then he could do whatever the heck he wanted once he got the job. (Ring any bells? lol)

And I'm not sure I buy the idea that Mike wouldn't want Kaep. Mike completely retooled his offense for Griffin and it worked wonders. Mike used to rave about how the zone-read with the QB run threat created a decisive advantage over the defense. And the numbers don't lie. Rookie or not the numbers that offense put up was phenomenal. From all the rumors here Mike wanted to continue that style offense.

Yeah I think it's more sour grapes from Shanahan. Why go through an interview this year and last if you know you don't want the QB they have? Whatever Mike.
