Re: Better days ahead. (Off season part 1 thread)

we got good value from our 3rd and 4th round pick, everyone else's contribution was either at or below their slot.

having that kind of draft every year would be good if you were 4-12 and looking to go 8-8. which i guess we were, but you actually need to do quite a bit better than 2 new starters a year from the draft/udfas to get ahead.

Do you mean in general or are you referencing a specific draft?

Id imagine the one u posted. I agree. Moses n Breeland. Everyone else is meh or blah. I also agree a draft like that will get u nowhere fast. We need a much better one this year if we want to take the next step.

per Rich Tandler minimal changes on defense Need to Know: Will McCloughan try to build the Redskins’ defense through free agency? | Rich Tandler's Real Redskins

If accurate, there will be minimal improvement on defense... there are to many holes to fill solely in the draft

well, that's rich tandler's view, not scot's. scot said we wouldn't be big players last year and signed 5 starters. so i think he'll follow the value. the defense definitely needs some work though.

I don't share Tandler's views on defensive needs at all. I don't know what Scot will do about the defense but I think he'll give it a lot of attention this off-season.

If all you see are the 2 starters, and miss the rest of the mistakes, then whatever.

Pretty solid draft if you ask me. Am I missing something?

4 (102) CB Bashaud Breeland Clemson
5 (142) WR Ryan Grant Tulane
6 (186) — From Tennessee RB Lache Seastrunk Baylor
7 (217) TE Ted Bolser Indiana
7 (228) — From Tennessee K Zach Hocker Arkansas
It didn't look too good last year but Breeland and Moses both emerged to salvage it. For not having a 1st rounder, we did pretty good here. Everyone should keep in mind the missing 1st rounder from this draft class that was traded for Griffin, remember that 1st rounders are your best shot at landing a starter.

So if you're grading on the execution of the picks that were available, it came out pretty solid.

I think time will show that McC got more out of last year's class than Allen got out of this one. But Moses and Breeland play important positions and are definitely + players for us.

And remember, that was the year Allen was subscribing to McC's scouting service. He may have been the birdie whispering in his ear that Breeland and Moses were good targets.

I agree. 3 starters, 1 backup o-lineman, and a backup wr/st player.
