That should've been a flag. But he went sliding late, leaving few time to Murphy to pull out from the hit.

That does not matter. A Qb gets hit in the head, sliding or in the pocket, its a penalty. The only reason Newton did not get the flag was the referee turned just in time to see Cam hit the defender with the ball. That was a justified penalty too. Any other Sunday, that hit draws a flag.
