Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
I think feeling like resigning Cousins or letting him go and using the 20-25 million on other positions are both valid arguments. So people can civilly disagree. You can make points on both sides.
My position is if you get him for 20 million or less you resign him, if not franchise him and let him walk after next year if he still won't sign for 20 million or less (unless he improves then possibly the money can go up). I'd start working on a backup plan for 2018 now. I wonder how much Nate Sudfeld can improve in 1 year. If he doesn't improve, we might see another mid round pick spent on a qb.

My solution is - sign Cousins to a long term deal with the possible option of trading him. This buys time indefinitely to actively find another QB or to see if Cousins gets to the next level. Either way, it's a win-win for the Redskins and also for Cousins. |

Re: Kirk Cousins 24/7 thread
If he has some choking games again next year and is getting towards 30 years old, would we be able to find a team that would want to trade for him if his salary is say 24 million? That's the only thing I'd worry about in this scenario.

He's a good starting QB at the very least. And has more than enough years left. Proven good starting QB are hard to find. It's likely that he retains his trade value in the future. You're right it's still a risk, but less risky than just letting him go without another proven option at qb and also possibly no compensation for him. |
