Re: In Scot we trust?

I don't gamble much either, but I feel pretty good about where we're headed in spite of a very disappointing finish to this year.

We could have beat the Cowboys twice, 1-1 against the Giants, and 2-0 against Eagles. Not saying we will, but there is no reason we can't go 4-2 in those games. I think 6-4 vs. the remaining 10 isn't shooting too high.

We have extra picks and good cap. We should be able to improve as much or more than any other team in the NFL if we have a good FA/draft.

So I'll go with 10.

In Scot we trust?

I just need the Giants and Cowboys to lose. Early. Than I can start to maybe convince myself of a bright future. Convince myself KC is Captain Kirk again instead of Captain Jerk. I mean I have been singing his praises through thick and thin but that throw was ....
Lets just pray that it will make him think twice in the future but not to the point that he goes into a shell. Just do what you do but for christ sake always think about where you are at and the score and the down and distance, etc. i am having a tough time giving him the lack of experience pass this time.

What do you think Looking at our schedule and giving your best "way to early" guess? Obviously the schedule means nothing because so much can change between now and than. Than week to week. But i am curious where you are at...

Re: In Scot we trust?

I asked this in another thread, but nobody answered it yet... can anyone name one area that got better this year than last?

Please convince me that our Front Office is making the right choices to improve this team.

I really don't feel any area improved, while a few (d-line, Kicking, our back 4) have regressed.

With the other 3 teams in our division showing definite improvement over last year & us just muddling along, tell me why you're so rosy on our future.

I'd really like to feel that we're about to spring forward, but I just don't see it.

It depends how much you want to pin on coaching vs how much you want to put on McCloughan. On the defensive side, I saw us basically trot out all the same players but with Norman added. We can definitely put that on McCloughan - he didn't do enough. But Barry had basically the same talent from 2015 plus a very good CB, and yet the defense got so much worse. Our third down conversion rate was among the worst in league history.

I pin that on Barry.

McCloughan needs to come up with more defensive help, but Barry added no value this year. We could make improvements with a change at DC and be back in the playoffs. McCloughan can't rest on that, but Barry is the guy that deserves the most criticism.

Individual players got better, Crowder, CT , Moses , Foster , Kirk , Baker..

Overall we were about the same as a team...

ALSO how was Philly that much better? They were 7-9 both seasons... and have ZERO talent on offense...

Re: In Scot we trust?

I come back to my original point - Scot promised a tough, physical team, and after two offseasons to build toward that vision, the team is still butter-soft on the interior of both lines. Failing to convert on the first 3rd down yesterday with only half a hard to go set the tone, and is a microcosm of the toughness that this team lacks. On defense, we are the magic elixir to make slumping players look in pro-bowl form. Cam Newton had perhaps his best game of the year against us. Same with Carson Palmer. The Giants couldn't run the ball all year, but had no trouble yesterday.

If we dont spend some cash on DL this summer I'll agree but this season was a HUGE eye opener to everyone. Like I said week 1 Williams gashed us all night and it never got better.

-Overall offense yards/game: 17th in 2015, 3rd in 2016.

Passing yards/game: 11th in 2015, 2nd in 2016.

Rushing yards/game: 20th in 2015, 21st in 2016.

-Overall defense (yards allowed/game): 28th both in 2015 and 2016.

Passing D: 25th both in 2015 and 2016.

Rushing D: 26th in 2015, 24th in 2016.

Considering how little defense was addressed last offseason, it's safe to say this team improved tremendously in the areas that were addressed.

If this offseason is as efficient for the defensive side of the ball as last year's was for the offense... Watch out.

Not saying it will happen, but saying we didn't improve is delusional.

I'd say adding a 75M cornerback should have made more of a difference on defense. If you add a $75M corner, and he plays well (which he did), and you don't see any improvement in your defensive rankings while allowing the most 3rd down conversions in the NFL, then the defensive coaching staff is doing something wrong.

But yeah McCloughan needs to do more. I think he probably gets that.

Agreed.
Just saying we're heading in the right direction.
And while I've finally joined the "we need a new DC" club, I think, as bad as they looked, this D is just a few pieces away, regardless of coaching.
