Re: Uniforms

My opinion on the uniforms is that little to no change is better. Our uniforms haven't changed appreciably since 1979 (according to Football Uniforms Past and Present). That fact visually links today's team to the championship teams which I think is a good thing. The lack of change indicates pride, personal security and a value of tradition. I'll take those over marketing opportunities any day. Of course, resurecting one of the past combos wouldn't be a bad thing either. I would love to see the gold circle "R" helmets in use.

Re: Uniforms

The only opportunity to see the Redskins in their burgundy jerseys this season could be the away games at Arizona, Tampa Bay, and Philly. But that all depends on whether they choose to wear whites at home.

The weather does have a lot to do with it. For the opening game in Jacksonville, Jack Del Rio had his Jaguars to wear white to reflect the heat. The same is basically true for many warm-weather climate teams. Miami, San Diego, Arizona, and Tampa Bay all usually wear whites at home when it's oppressively hot.

Against the Chargers a couple of weeks ago, the Patriots wore their white jerseys at home -- the first time I've ever seen that. Other teams that sometimes do it are Philly, Carolina, and Tennessee. To my knowledge though, St. Louis always wears their dark jerseys at home.

I'm with you, scowan. I'd also like to see burgundy jerseys at home -- but change to white jerseys and burgundy pants only for the home game against Dallas. If I ran the team, the white jerseys/white pants combination would be the permanent away jersey. As far as alternate or throwback uniforms go, I'd rather not see the Skins do that. I wasn't crazy about the 70th Aniversery uniforms with the spear logo anyway. I loved it during Schottenheimer's short time here because in that season, the Skins wore burgundy jerseys 10 times, (eight home games, and against the Chargers and Cowboys) with only 6 games in white. That was a nice change-up.

Beemnsteven, probably the only thing I liked out of the Steve Spurrier era of the Skins was the White on White away jerseys. I would just like to see a change every now and then. Unfortunately with Gibbs calling the shots, we will probably never see it. Spurrier did not care about little things like that, but I get the feeling that EVERYTHING with Gibbs is done with a purpose in mind including jerseys. Does anyone know of a way we could get a message to him that we would like to see a change? Or at least find out what the players think. For all I know they may love the look they wear now and hate the Red tops, and White bottoms look.

Re: Uniforms

I like the white jersey and burgundy pants. It's old school 80's style Gibbs. I just wish we'd go back to the curled feather on the helmet. That was cool.

I absolutely agree.

I read once, and it may have been here at The Warpath, that Gibbs preferred the white jerseys because his quarterbacks could apparently spot them better in the shadows that sometimes fell on parts of the field at RFK stadium. That doesn't mean he couldn't use the white pants at home though.

On Sportstalk 980, every Monday night at 6pm eastern, you can hear the Joe Gibbs show with Bram Weinstein. They take call-ins, but I bet it's pretty hard to get through. That would be the only way I know of to talk to Gibbs personally and ask him.
