Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
I wonder what numbers each side is stuck at? I have a feeling it is the Redskins that are far away from a reasonable number. Kirk proved himself while QB salaries continue to escalate. I was thinking before that $115 mil for 5 years was fair with $50 mil guaranteed. I think I will up his value to $24 mil a year for 5 years. After decades of horrendous QB play how could the Redskins let a guy who almost threw for 5,000 yards walk?

If we can't bring it up from $20M per year w low guarantees then Redskin park needs to be burned to the ground. I do think they will though, in the wee hours of July 14.

Now they have a young, productive and franchise record breaking quarterback and a top 5 Offense. Why in the world would they blow that up? Fix the 28th ranked Defense and the 21st ranked running game and leave the Offense in tact. There's plenty of money to do that even after signing Cousins to a LTD. It's not an either or situation.

SO -- if you believe the above, then you could argue that another QB may not give you the same numbers but could be serviceable, with less cap hit, especially if you think Kirk can't perform in big situations. He certainly takes some blame for losing down the stretch with the playoffs on the line. Personally I'd take Kirk rather than gamble unnecessarily. We'll see what happens. |

Sounds like the Browns may make a run trading for Kirk.
Per @ProFootballTalk: Cleveland may make a run at trading for Kirk Cousins JP Finlay also reporting that he's heard similar reports within last 24 hours |

Poor Kirk if that goes down, at least his football career will die profitable.

You kind of wonder if the Skins would float this rumor to get Kirk to agree to a long term contract out of fear.

We won't trade kirk for anything less than a 1st round pick and Cleveland ain't giving us one of theirs..

From what I've heard, Kirk's agent is chasing his first major contract and he wants to hit big with Kirk; so if it's the money that they're chasing then it may not matter that it's the Browns. The Browns have the cap space and ammo to possibly make a trade happen. The Browns have already showed their hand by letting everyone know that they don't want Osweiler. From everything that I've heard is that they plan to either release or trade him. So they still need a QB. They have two first round picks this year (1st and 12th); maybe they would be willing to give up the 12th pick along with a 2nd or 3rd round pick. |

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
The only way the Browns consider that is if they are confident Cousins would sign a deal with them, and the only way that could happen is if the Redskins permit him to talk contract with the Browns. And the only way the Redskins do that is if Cleveland makes a real hard push in terms of trade compensation.
Lots of dominoes to fall, I don't see it. I don't think Cousins would be interested in signing there.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
Kirk basically controls where he can be traded since no one will trade for him if they don't know the basic parameters of his eventual long term deal or if he flat out says he won't sign long term with them. Unless the Skins are willing to give Kirk up for peanuts, in which case maybe some team would be content to have him for one year

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
Kirk cleared the air, the front office wants him, so this will get done.
the rest of us just need to tune out the "fake news" until the final signature goes on paper. More than ever, I am convinced this deal gets done. |

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
If Brock Osweiler comes to the Skins as part of any trade I will stop watching pro football. Can't root for another team so I'd just have to quit cold turkey.
