Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
Browns could roll over some of their cap space, and they have a lot, and franchise Cousins next year. That guarantees them 2 years of Kirk and 2 years to get a big fat contract worked out. I could see a trade to them just as easily as to San Fran.

We know that KC didn't ask for a trade - as posted by several 'sources' - and we know that he contacted Pryor and others to start off-season sessions to get acquainted with them. Plus, he's having a baby this fall and has a great place in town. He wants to stay, the Skins want to keep him, and they will get a deal done. Stop listening to the talking heads and twitter junkies who just need lots of clicks to keep them employed. |

Why was this situation handled this way? If I had a high level employee that was skilled but has a substance abuse issue (and was honest about it upon hire) and relapsed I would first send him home and simply say publicly that he was out on leave. Period. No stupid personal story. Next I'd offer treatment (honestly I'd be surprised if they could fire him without offering). If he accepted I would say he was on long term leave for personal reasons (and he could comment if/when he wanted. If he refused, I would have a discussion with them about how to handle his termination (negotiate a termination agreement - compensation, timing, official documentation, public communication, etc.). If he cooperated in negotiations a I would suggest him remaining "on leave for personal reasons" until a less crucial time, and make a quiet announcement with an agreed upon official statement. If he was not cooperative, I suppose it would be an immediate termination without publicly releasing a reason. So this could mean so many things, but here's what seem to be the prevailing possibilities: 1. There were other underlying reasons. A power struggle over a Kirk as some have suggested maybe. They silenced him, fired him, and dragged him through the mud to make themselves seem less at fault. 2. They tried to go through all the proper protocol, he was a mess, was unwilling to seek treatment, unwilling to negotiate termination, and they had to fire him immediately. And then a) The FO felt too exposed so they purposely leaked statements smearing him. b) someone spoke out of turn. 3) They are incredibly stupid and incompetent. Didn't know how to handle the situation. Tried to hide what was going on, couldn't work things out peacefully with Scot, fired him and then (see 2a and 2b). So, if it's 1. Then it is more of the slimy, unprofessional, and chaotic behavior that Snyder has poisoned this organization with, and as others have expressed, Im sick of it and don't know how much more I can watch a respected and beloved franchise dragged into the same cesspool of classlessness that I always expected of Dallas. 2a. Less loathsome, but still slimy. My bet for most likely. 3a. Frustrating and loathsome and one of the more likely in my mind. 3b. Not loathsome, but frustrating and inexcusable. 2b. Is the only somewhat excuseable scenario, but even then. How can you not keep shit out of he media? How can you not release a statement condemning the leak and apologizing? Who the hell is accountable for these mishandled situations. Maybe this is the wrong place for all this, but I can finally return from the ledge, express my frustration, and thank god we at least have a professional QB that can handle his shit. At least for now...

Could it be possible that BOTH sides were to blame like you said in number 2..in that case The skins had to make a move..Why has Scott not said anything? I would be interested in his story.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
If we don't get a long term with cousins and he walks next year...worse than the rg3 trade.
Because we would have a proven qb and still couldn't retain him. And then we had a opportunity to get something for him through a trade but because dan Snyder is a bitch bc 49er coach is a shanny, we chose to not to move him...

He probably signed a non-disclosure agreement when he was hired.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
The Browns are not going to have a chance to get Cousins. Not unless they were willing to give up a king's ransom, and even I don't believe the Browns would do that. That said, I have no doubt that these "rumors" were leaked in order to make Cousins a little nervous that he could be shipped off to Cleveland, in order to force his hand a little quicker with the negotiations. That said, Cousins has pretty much said that the tag dictates how his agent is going to negotiate, so if the Redskins would just simply offer close to that number, I think Cousins signs. Why wait until July 14th? Just get it done now so that this is no longer a distraction.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
I think we should def use this as leverage to get a deal done. Also many folks reported 3 teams called about Cousins....this is nothing but good news.

Re: Cousins 3.0, he's going to sign the franchise tag
Agreed. For all the reporting and columns written about how Cousins has all of this leverage (and he still does, don't get me wrong), what was assumed is that the only trade partner the Redskins had was San Francisco. Therefore, even if they wanted to trade him, San Fran would dictate trade compensation. But seeing how other teams (even though they are nameless right now) have been rumored to be in the mix, and Cleveland being named (although I think it's merely a rumor to force Cousins' hand), I think we're starting to see some leverage go toward the Redskins.

Honestly, I don't expect this deal to get done until July, as this is how these types of situations work out. It'd be nice if the deal got done before, but as Andrew Brandt says: deadlines spurn action.

Way too many chicken littles around here. But even if it's taken you this long to come around, it's still better late than never.

It sounds like this "wanting to leave" may have been overblown or it may have been a negotiation tactic from his camp. Who knows, but it looks like things are somewhat normal and they are just doing the typical negotiations. In the end, I don't see what's so terrible about the team moving forward. I feel that with some of the acquisitions we've gotten and getting Kirk back under center, I expect us to be competitive again in the upcoming season.

We don't need to extend the QB track record with Bruce/Danny anymore. Lets end it with a good deal for Cousins. My general feeling right now is it does get done. Im 60-40....60% he signs, 30 he is traded, 10% he plays on it without signing Where is everybody right percentage wise?
