Back to Alex Smith -- I am excited to see what he can bring to the offense. He's also a real quality individual -- someone who seems likely to have a better chance to lead the team than Cousins, if only because of the drama that had begun to blow up around the annual question of a long term deal and whether he was appreciated by Snyder/Allen/Gruden. I wish the guy well, but he's no longer my QB. I think Alex Smith is poised to have a strong year and prove everyone he isn't too conservative. His O line will be better than what he had in KC, although some of the skills players around him are still unproven. But I am excited about the potential of some of our newer players, and the D could be much improved if we can get one of our CBs to perform as well (or nearly as well) as Breeland.

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
And our run game - im not sure if im overhyping Guice or not. I just think he is going to play with a chip on his shoulder since so many teams passed on him so many times. Plus it will not be tough to be better than what we have had since Portis.

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Running some numbers on dome vs. outside games
Passing numbers absolutely inflated in domes/retractable roof stadiums Since 2001, Passer rating in dome/retractable: 86.5 Passer rating outdoors: 80.7 #PFF

ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Quote:
Weather definitely not an issue, but crowd noise is. Would be more interested in road games in dome where noise is a factor. Can you do that? Im terrible at stat figure outing. Lol Anyway id imagine for a home quarterback it is a definite advantage because of the lack of wind rain snow etc. |

121 games outdoors, 119 games in a dome Outdoors Passer Rating: 90.9 Dome Passer Rating: 102.6 So yes home dome is def an advantage

Interesting stat on percentage of drives (excluding kneel downs) that led to scoring: AS - 6th at 46.9% KC - 22nd at 33% Obviously a stat dependent on teammates but still interesting.

Is this spread in passer rating any different for teams who play in outdoor stadiums? We're officially off the rails.

LOL yeah we are getting desperate, need training camp to get here asap. Home dome is the advantage over playing outside at home

Re: ALEX SMITH and moving forward.
Last post I'll do on Kirks overall game, this is his RZ %s. kirk's biggest area of needed improvement is the RZ. He ranked in the bottom half of the league in RZ completion %. Alex Smith? He was in the top 10.
