No one can predict an injury - especially one like this that could be career-ending.

My point is, did Bruce Allen really think Alex Smith was the QB answer for the next 4-5 years for the Redskins? An aging, decent QB whose win-loss record looks great because he played for an outstanding team like the Chiefs. IMO, Bruce panicked because people were criticizing him about the Cousins situation (justified), so he overpaid and gave a long contract to an average QB to keep the team in the .500 range. If the team plays 7-9 or 8-8 then Allen can say: "we're ALMOST there". "We're just a player or two from the next level up". That's why Bruce win-loss record sux, because he sets low goals and is happy to make it.

The contract was written with "outs" in it. Thats how good contracts are done. We were 6-2 with smith and dunbar. Losing thoae two particularly killed us.

You said yourself you were ok with the annualized amount, but to get that amount in a cap friendly manor you do a longer contract. Thats just how the current CBA works

I think it's Eric Schaeffer that does contracts.

Yeah, BA doesn't right them but he has final say and input, so I do think that's one thing we can (at least partly) credit him for.

BA f-ed up the Cousins contract by not deciding whether to keep him or let him go for 3 years; he paid $94 mill for an average QB for 5 years who was 34 years old. Last year USA Today asked NFL players representatives who they liked to deal with for player contracts. BA was rated LAST on that list in the NFL. Finally while BA has held his top position in the Redskins organization while the team has done well below average in the field. 7-9 two years in a row.

I don’t trust him to do the right thing with Trent Williams either in terms of paying him more to keep him or getting draft picks with another team if he must be traded. He sucks as a GM or in terms of dealing with players or their reps in a personal basis. No wonder TW doesn’t trust him!

I am by no means a BA fan, but the fact that agents don't like dealing with him on contracts isn't necessarily a bad thing, is it? Seems to me that the GMs they would most like dealing with are the easy marks that cave to their demands easily. Being ranked last on such a survey might even be a good thing. The guy makes some very poor decisions, IMO, but how player agents like dealing with him on contracts doesn't bother me.
