Re: Coronavirus (political)

Some of the crap Trump spews on subjects where he has no knowledge boggles the mind. A good one was the disqualification of Maximum Security the horse that crossed the wire first in the 2019 Kentucky Derby. It was the first time they have taken down the winner of the Derby and it was a no brainer. He blamed it on political correctness, he probably doesn't know which end of a horse eats and which end craps.

Continuing on where he has no knowledge I think auto makers cooperating to help make respirators is nothing but a ploy to game the government for money, like when GM took a bailout and still filed bankruptcy during the last recession, screwing over all their suppliers.

Working in the manufacturing sector for 40 years, while admitting I have never seen a schematic or assembly drawing of a respirator, it is pretty obvious looking at pictures an automaker is about as well equipped to make one as your neighborhood McDonalds. Looks like the main components outside of electronics are molded plastic, rubber and tubing. All of those items automakers like GM buy from their vendors, they do not make them. Most of the electronics on GM vehicles is also purchased from 3rd party vendors.

GM pretty much makes all the solid metal parts like engines, transmissions, body parts and suspension. WTF a car frame and a respirator have in common is beyond me. I can see it now GM will be willing to make respirators for a $50 billion bailout and being able to charge time and materials to make them, as in given a blank check from the government.

I tend to agree. I can understand Dyson coming up with something quick not sure how GM builds ventilators and uses its current assembly lines, ones built to build multi ton products.
