Re: PIT v WFT Pregame Thread

They're beatable but honestly I don't think we've beaten Pittsburgh since I started watching football and I can def. see that trend continuing this week. Secondary will have to play the game of their life though and if they can negate our pass rush we have no shot. Offense wise Alex Smith is gonna have to step up, because as has been mentioned this isn't Dallas' run defense we're talking about.

I'll say 20-17 Pitt. Initially it's not a close game, we score a pity td at the end to make it look better than it was.

Keys to winning the game:

Avoid the 11 day off hangover that has plagued this team in the past, be prepared

Defense must stop the run game and make them one dimensional

Apply pressure on Rothleisberger, beat his ass

Turner must play a balanced offense, can't get all pass happy and forget the run

Other WR's need to step it up, McLaurin will be a marked man with Haden and Fitzpatrick

No turn overs

OL needs to protect Smith

Washington can upset Pittsburgh, just need to play a smart, error free game

By the way, great article:

Really hope we make this game competitive. Losing Dupree is a huge loss as he's a playmaker. Will be interesting to see how both teams play with a long/brief layover for each team.

I agree with your keys. I am ok with Turner getting pass happy if that means short quick passes - as an extension of the running game.

I foresee a lot of pre-snap motion, misdirection, A Smith getting the ball out of his hands quickly and allowing JD, Antonio, Scary Terry, Sims, etc. make big plays. Give Pit a lot of different looks and things to think about.

I also hope they incorporate Logan Thomas a little more. I wouldn't mind seeing him under center a couple times, executing the run-pass option.

The number one thing is, be prepared and not be in an 11 day off stupor that has plagued this team many times in the past.

True, they did not come out of that bye week with any intensity at all, losing to the Giants - a game they should have definitely won.
