As with last year's opening week, there were a lot of "bad" teams that came to play and some of them won.
I would say that the reason all the mistakes were overcame was cause the Cards didn't have a NFL offense. I was thinking that we would blow this team out. The best part of the game was the crowd. That was great to see.

Re: Cards post game

We all said wouldn’t it be nice if we had a QB with Taylor’s heart and determination but with a real NFL arm … that’s exactly what we have in Sam ..
My takeaways from game ..

The Cards are NOT the worse team in league ..
We are a work in progress ( but we knew that going in)..
Gibson fumbles are maddening..
With this Oline I expect Sam will have more strip sack fumbles ..
I would trade Young if we could and go after legit Oline help … we can’t pay all those Dline…
The Refs are horrible and if there is a word more horrible they are it… they ruin the game ..

Yes, we can pay Sweat and Young. Have you seen the number of players the 49ers are paying? Next year you cut, Leno, Thomas, Samuel, Fuller (that's a chunk of change).

Well Fuller and Samuel are free agents next year, so no savings to be had. They have huge amounts of cap next year so no need to cut players for cap space, cut them based on performance not cap hit. Drafting OL and TE 1st and 2nd respectively would seem to be the best scenario. But if they don't improve this year there will be a clearout and every position is up for grabs. If Ron is still here he will pick a DL and a project LB.

Leno and Thomas are done after this year and need to go.

Re: Cards post game

So while the oline was not great, it was serviceable in pass protection. It was TERRIBLE at run blocking, but the vast majority of the sacks were on Howell. He held the ball WAY WAY WAY too long and was very slow in processing what was going on around him. Lots of slows too late and needs to learn to throw the ball around. This is Howells first game in a new offense, and second overall, so i do think he will improve and has some good moments as well.

Logan Thomas needs to be benched for Turner. Thomas has 4 or 5 drops and was horrendous as a blocker. Turner looked much better in his limited play and needs to play more.

Running game needs improvement from the oline, but also improvement from the play calling. Where were any read option plays? We need to find a way to get the running game going!!

Wylie is straight dog-ass. Give me (from left to right):

Leno, Charles, Stromberg, Gates, Cosmi or Leno, Charles, Gates, Stromberg, Cosmi.

Couldn't agree more.

Listen too Al Galdi most recent podcast: episode 653

He brought up the same thing and apparently in the scouting report on SH out of NC was that he took too many sacks.

Between this OLINE and SH, its going get ugly.
