Re: Around the NFL: Wildcard weekend 2024
Reminder: Bears Selected Mitch Trubisky #2 in the draft 8 slots ahead of Mahomes.
Mitch was the safe traditional drop back QB from UNC Glad we will have professionals looking at QBs. |

Couple things here. Mitch wasn't a safe traditional pick. The dude has ONE fucking year of college experience as a starter. That's it. He wasn't even good enough to beat out the starter 3 of the 4 years at UNC. You don't give up a kings ransom to move up and draft a dude with one year of college starting experience. Secondly, the Chiefs team was in a much better situation to bring in a rookie QB. They had a solid OL and running game, and a good coach that had good experience with putting QBs in positions for them to succeed. Also, Mahomes did not play the entire year his rookie year except for ONE game in which he only started b/c they sat Alex Smith for the playoffs. You really can't compare the two situations. The problem with most teams is the continue to draft these QBs and put them into shit situations and expect something miraculous. Bottom line: If you don't have a OL and decent running game, you are going to do nothing but destroy any young QB you trot out there.
