I think you've got it nailed. And by the way, this is what all the teams do. I once called it the "Scarlett O'Hara Management Technique" because it allows you to say that you can ignore the problem today and deal with it tomorrow.

The key to making this "plan" work is good player selection in the first place and then some good fortune down the road. The reason that this same plan has not worked here in Washington in the last 4-5 years is that the people in charge of bringing in the players brought in the WRONG players. YOu know who they are; I don't have to list them here again for the umpteenth time.

After you bring in the right players, then you need to have the good fortune that they don't get injured (Brandon Noble) or get crosswise with the law (Darrell Russell/Rae Carruth) or eat their way out of the league (Scott Mitchell/Gilbert Brown) That is why Gibbs (and Andy Reid in Philly) put so much emphasis on judging the character of the players they sign in addition to their on-field abilities.
