New Redskins Developments (midnight, 3/14)

Redskins | Evans to shop around
Tue, 14 Mar 2006 20:08:51 -0800

The Washington Post reports the agent for free agent DL Demetric Evans (Redskins) said he is talking to several other teams and lining up visits for Evans, who provided depth at tackle and end.

Redskins | Team interested in Cowart
Tue, 14 Mar 2006 19:53:54 -0800

The Washington Post reports Washington Redskins vice president of football operations, Vinny Cerrato, has contacted the agent for free agent LB Sam Cowart (Vikings), according to a source with knowledge of the situation. Cowart wants to continue to play middle linebacker, according to agent Paul Healy. Healy said Cowart has a visit planned this week, but not with the Redskins.

Re: New Redskins Developments (midnight, 3/14)

obviously this would once again shift the draft more towards CB or OL. If they get one player at each of the 3 needs, i'd bet on taking a guard with the 2nd rounder, or another CB... though they might go for DL instead at that point.

I figured that the Skins were leaning towards playing Carter at DE, this would explain their interest in Cowart.

This would be sick. Cowart at MLB and move Marshall out to ROLB?!?!?!?

I'm not sure it is legal for one team to improve itself so much in one year...

I'm not sure if Cowart is an outside or inside backer, either way it's good with me. Sucks that D. Evans is shopping around though, i thought we were gonna resign him.

We probably made an offer, and will try to resign him, but evans made it very clear that he was going to shop himself once FA opened. It was expected.

cowart is an ILB, he may try OLB here though since washington and marshall have a lot more experience making the calls on D.

yeah i thought marshall was definitely underrated this season in the middle. He did everything antonio pierce did, and then some. How old is Cowart, btw?

Cowart has played in Williams system so he would most likely take over in the middle and Lemar would move outside.

didn't know that, I stand corrected. that'd mean all three LBs could make the calls then.

also: the post reports

The Redskins are believed to be pursuing San Diego cornerback Jamar Fletcher for their vacant nickel back spot. Fletcher, 26, is a former first-round pick of Miami who had one sack and one interception last year.

that's discouraging, but MLB is a position where speed is less important than the rest of the back 7. still, after 31 he could be headed downhill fast. 100+ tackle/year MLBs tend not to age that well.

I like the interest in cowart,he would be a good addition, but i sure hope we could keep Evans,he played really well last yr at times.and was good in the d- line rotation.

Lemar Marshall isn't big enough to play outside linebacker, if we were to sign Cowart they would both most likely have to compete for the starting job at middle. If Cowart starts at middle we should expect to see Greg put Lemar in similar type situations as Clemons on third down packages and such. But I can see Cowart moving to ROLB because lemar has been in the system and did a good job calling plays at middle last year.
