Starting to worry about the future?
" Late Redskins coach George Allen was famous for proclaiming "The Future Is Now." And fellow Hall of Famer Joe Gibbs also subscribes to that go-for-it now philosophy.
Draft choices, Washington's price to acquire Duckett, have never meant much to Gibbs. The Redskins have traded their top pick in nine of Gibbs' 14 drafts. In the three drafts since his return in 2004, Washington has chosen just six players in the first four rounds. Duckett's arrival just about seals the departure of backs Manuel White and Nehemiah Broughton. If linebacker Robert McCune also fails to survive the cuts, the 2005 draft class would be first-rounders Carlos Rogers and Jason Campbell. The 2004 draft class is first-rounder Sean Taylor, third-rounder Chris Cooley and sixth-round offensive tackle Jim Molinaro, who's no lock to remain on the roster." The above quote is from a recent Wash. Times article. Im really starting to worry about, not this year, but the next few seasons. We give draft picks away like candy. For a coach that always addresses glaring needs in the offseason, everyone seems to gloss over the fact that our draft picks in the mid to late rounds have blown. Maybe we've just given up finding young talent after round 3, but Im concerned about the lack of young solid talent we have on this team. I know, I know, "I trust Gibbs" is the mantra, but doesn't our lack of cheap young talent concern any of you? |

Re: Starting to worry about the future?
Definitely looking too far down the road for my tastes right now. This is a potential Super Bowl season. Win-now mode is the only way to go in my opinion.
Never up, never in.

Re: Starting to worry about the future?
Allen was right, the future is definitely NOW.
We find enough young talent through free agency, Duckett is only 25 you now. Look at the other notable acquisitions we've made recently, Moss, Washington, Griffin, Portis, Randle El, Lloyd, etc. They're all on the right side of 30. |

On a side note:
WR Atevius Cash was released to make room on the roster for Duckett.. I would've liked to have had him on the practice squad, a good young raw CHEAP talent. |

Re: Starting to worry about the future?
How about Espy for the PS? I'd take him over Cash without thinking twice.

I too like Espy better, but there was something I really liked about Cash as well.

Re: Starting to worry about the future?
Was it the Antonio Brown-like fumbles on kickoffs?

Re: Starting to worry about the future?
I'm more worried about hooskins' Beer Pong Table.
We had a 34 year old TE and a 34 year old QB added as free agents this year, and the average age of our new players was still on the springy side of 30. This team has good young roots, we just didn't draft them. I've analysed drafts of successful teams on this site before. The Redskins aren't the only team who has middling success in the draft. Remember, when Tom Brady got drafted in the 6th round, there were 35 other players drafted (thanks to supplemental picks). No one ever mentions them when extolling the virtues of low draft picks.
