I think you believe that the fans in general do not support Brunell. Not true. Many don't, but............many do. While I am interested in seeing JC play, and beginning the next QB evolution, I can wait for the next couple of games to see if the current tailspin can be arrested. Brunell is part of a TEAM playing BAD football, not a solo act

Re: Reality check on Campbell
Why does everyone keep saying "the season is still alive"? Has anyone watched the past 7 games? Brunell absolutley blows, and now with his "bruised" ribs he is going to be even worse, everytime he gets injured his play goes to crap, is it possible that he could play worse? I hope not. Put the kid in see if the team improves, it worked for Dallas (last week), pittsburg and the pats a couple of years ago.

Re: Reality check on Campbell
I said a few weeks ago to not expect to see Campbell until the season is all but over, which will be with losses to the Cowboys and Eagles.
But with Brunell's recent rib injury and the fact that Campbell has been seeing a lot of work in practice, I won't be surprised if we see him sooner. |

Re: Reality check on Campbell
Campbell has been taking a lot of snaps in practice because Brunell is nursing sore ribs, but Brunell was supposed to be back in practice today.

Re: Reality check on Campbell
As much as it pains me 5rings, you have a point. At least conspiratorially. JC has been taking the bulk of the first team snaps, which IS a huge deal. I fully expect MB to start against.............."those that cannot be named". However, it is not beyond the realm of possibility, that Joe2 is laying some alternative "injury" ground work for Brunell to bow out if things doni't go well.

Re: Reality check on Campbell
to all who say JC is not the anwser now and the season is still alive we are 2-5 people. we dont any facet of the game to hang our hat on no offense no defense or special teams. we suck this year we lost to the titans. lost to the vikes on opening night we should have beaten them we were up at the half. no excuses we deserve to be 2-5. we are 2-5 team with a vet a QB. lets see the titans 2-5 vince young starting. 2-5 bucs gradcowski. raiders 2-5 walters. these are the young guys playing for there teams. but we have brunell leading us to 2-5. yes qbs get to much glory and too much critizism for loses but he the team leader on the field

Re: Reality check on Campbell
Correct! While what you say is generally true, to not put the best team on the field to win when THERE IS a chance (albeit small one) to turn it around is GIVING UP, QUITTING. It is possible that JC could work some miracle, but the odds against that are extraordinary. First year starting QB's don't excell. Rothlesberger is a freak

Re: Reality check on Campbell
My humble two cents on who plays QB.
When I look to hire a person to do a job, I look for experience, knowledge, pedigree, character, and all too often cost. I have never hired someone because they could use the experience and they probably couldn't do any worse than the guy doing it now. I do not tie my performance record to a guy who has not proven he can get the job done. You have to prove yourself as better capable to do the job before you unseat the incumbent. Its just the way life works. For JC that means proving it day in and day out with consistent performances at practice, in front of those that make the decision. |

Re: Reality check on Campbell
so why isn't Taylor Jacobs or Antonio Brown our number 1 receiver?

I don't buy that Brunell gives us the best chance for winning, simply because his career arc and Campbell's are at the complete opposite ends of the spectrum. Brunell is what he is, we can hope he plays more consistently but he's not going to get any better, not at 36 and not in the NFL. Campbell can improve, and given how much we gave up to get him I'd say we're counting on him an awful lot. Since Gibbs proclaimed Campbell ready to play, I'd say your qualifier on JC gaining experience first has come true this week in practice. So start JC, I mean he's got some pretty powerful initials, so if anyone can save our season it's JC! Brunell's experience is only valuable if it leads to wins or prevents losses. Since we're 2-5, I'd say his experience hasn't proved too valuable thus far. |

Re: Reality check on Campbell
[quote=memphisskin;237378]So what you're saying is that without experience you won't hire someone, but how is that someone supposed to get experience if no one will hire him until he gets experience? Campbell's been "interning" for the past year and a half, how long are we going to keep the training wheels on him? [quote]
That's correct, when I need a professional entry level position then I get someone with experience. How do you get experience. We have all dealt with that question in our individual career paths. It differs. Would you elect to have an inexperienced yet promising medical intern come in and do an eye surgery on you? Nope, me either. |

thats old school. if everyone hired like that no one would ever get a start in your business. I don't know how long you've been in management or what field, but the businesses that grow are the ones who don't get into the doldrums of doing business like daddy, but the ones who can think forward. Usually that means hiring new younger canditates for positions and doing what it takes to mold them into someone who shares your values and business plan, but can help you grow. At that point it becomes retention, which is easier and CHEAPER than stealing talent from someone else with whom they have a history... for this analogy, character and pedigree are supposed to already be there in the younger QB and cost is not an issue, because we're already paying him. experience is the only thing that stands in his way, (because with potential, knowledge is gained from experience) and no one else is gonna let him play for them until he gets the hang of things and learns, and let us sign him if he gets good... thats what college was for... -I don't mean to sound gruff, but I deal with older old-school business men everyday who cant understand why their business is getting taken by people who arent conforming to yesterdays standards... and they're quick to dismiss unproven ideas and prospects because they're not experienced, but its usually the guy who gives someone the experience that gain the rewards of the prospects potential...

My business has a growth rate of a minimum of 23% per year. We grow our growth internally, that is, we don't buy other companies just because they have a contract we want. We don't buy growth, we cultivate it. We have training paths to teach our younger employees our business culture and work ethics. We also provide for the professional development of our less experienced staff. If thats OLD SCHOOL then I'm damned proud to be old school. A business has to grow to stay strong. A growing business is not taken over by the younger movers and shakers. Moving and shaking plays very thin after a while and people tend to gravitate toward companies with proven performance and core values. CANTHETUNA you stepped over the line here and I will call you out on this one. That is about as delicately as I can put it. |
