Weekly Tripp (11/7/06): A Defensive Study

Not only did I do one this week, but I also changed things up on you. Before you get to the picks, I've done an in depth case study of the pass defense thus far.

As always, enjoy!

And dont be afraid to discuss, it's why I write em.

I knew I'd guilt someone else into writing an article!

Good stuff.

Thanks, G. Good work on the article.

Fortunately, the problems you describe can be corrected relatively easily. We need to make stops on 3rd downs, and I am confident that our interceptions will increase during the 2nd half of the season. If we are able to improve those two areas, we could be a top 10 D.

i don't know what we do, but we consistently give up LONG 3rd down plays....
its as if we toss out the good D played to get us into 3rd and long....very frustrating. interceptions are rare bc we can't catch (rogers) or get in position to make a play (adam). I hope vincent and a healthy springs are the difference

Last year after the win in Oakland in which the Broncos didn't play that well, Shanahan was absolutely mocking the Raiders' franchise, and I figured that when Oakland got a chance they would stick it to em.

I didn't expect Oakland to be this bad, nor did I expect Denver to be this good. But if you look at the defenses, Oakland's quitely has become every bit as good as Denver's. Even though Oakland's O takes bad to a whole new level, its a divisional game on the road for the Broncos, and when you are only going to put up about 13 points, it doesn't take much of an offensive fluke for Oakland to cost Denver the game.

Denver probably wins, but I think the chances of Oakland pulling off the upset are much, much greater then anyone expects. Great enough for me to pick them.

God willing....

It's all about the third down right now, but its kinda the thing that makes us good on 1st and 2nd that makes us so painfully terrible on 3rd and long.

The key to this team turning it around, like last year were turnovers, turnovers, and more turnovers. Not give-aways, but take-aways.
