I don't think he is Antonio Gates but he seems to do everything we ask of the guy. I think you are underestimating his value to the team. There are alot of faster, bigger, and more popular players but this guy fits our scheme tremendously.
My question to you is who can we get for equal or lesser value that will perform at equal or better level. I don't think we should start underpaying on our only consistent short pass/surehanded threat in an offense which is marred by the inability to throw deep. I think the reality is we should do everything within reason to keep this guy if we can. Quote:

He is ranked 8th or BETTER IN ALL categories for TE in production in the entire NFL. Stats on nfl.com I think he is one of the best in the league at his position and has to be paid accordingly. If you let a guy like CC depart, you are going to have to pay BIG BUCKS to replace a player with his talent level.
