Im so depressed

Football is practically my religion. It is so depressing that nothing is going on. I'm just counting down the days to the draft, and then after that I will be counting down the days till the season starts. I keep checking the internet only to find nothing and my heart sinks every time. Ive only followed football real seriously for a year and a half or so this is my first time experiencing this. Am I the only one going through this? Does it get any better with time? Man I should start an AA type meeting for people addicted to football. Or an AA meeting for people who hate AA.

Re: Im so depressed

If you are actually equating your following of football with some kind of "religious" feeling and you are sensing a feeling of emptiness during parts of the calendar year when football is "taking a breather", you might want to consider getting some counseling.

Football is a GREAT avocation for one's life. But unless you are playing football at the pro level or coaching football at the Division 1-A college level or higher, it really should not be the single focus of your life. And football should never cause you to feel "depressed" or in a way that makes your heart sink when you can't be part of "football fandom".

For your sake, I really hope your note here was an exageration or some kind of hyperbolic attempt at humor. If not, get help... Quickly!

Just to clarify, yes it was an exageration. I do have an actual life that does not revolve around football, it's just when I have nothing to do, I normally go to football stuff, and now when I have nothing to do, I really have nothing to do, and I feel like going to football, only I cant because its not there. I like basketball, but not enough to follow it seriously. Maybe I should get a hobby that doesnt only last a few months a year.

Re: Im so depressed

Sorry, but I can sympathize. I definately feel half-empty during the offseason (save the first week of free agency and the days leading up to and following the draft).

SC,

I may have gotten you wrong, but I thought you loved sports.

Ill tell you what, I love the Skins myself. I also love the fact that as fans we have a whole year of stuff to talk about. Because thats what Dan wanted. He tried to keep us entertained all year round. This year hes not doin that and hopefully he's consetrating on the time of the year that counts. Maybe if he does that we will have quiet offseason then have a hell of a season. GO SKINS

Re: Im so depressed

Sheriff:

I love sports - and have loved them - for the last 58 years. When I was a kid, my father and I would read baseball box scores from the papers and football stats and basketball boxes whenever they were in the papers.

But sports are a diversion. They are not a religion. They aren't the focus of a healthy adult life - - unless you are a player or coach at the pro level or at a college level where you aspire to be at the pro level.

I sense the "slowdown" or the "inactivity" of the NFL at this time of the year. But I'm not depressed by it. And the absence of the NFL is not any kind of religious or spiritual vacuum in my life.

What I said was that I hoped the original statement here was hyperbole. If it wasn't then I stand by my suggestion that counseling would really help.

Re: Im so depressed

I'm with beast on this one. Until I have children, football is number one in my life. I think this thread is intended to be about commiserating over how much worse life is when football season is out, not patronizingly telling people what should or should not be important to them. Besides, anyone who reads this site everyday is not in a position to be criticizing anyone else.....it's likely that we all need counseling.

Re: Im so depressed

Mr. Beast:

I sure am happy to know you were exaggerating. Football fandom is a great diversion in life. But it should never cause depression or be confused with religion.

Glad to know you have things in perspective. Best to you...

Re: Im so depressed

I've been a Skins fan my whole life, but I joined this site the week the season started last year. And this is the first fan forum site I've ever been a member of. So this is the first offseason I've had a place like this to ramble on about the Skins. It makes the layoff more bearable, but football rules all sports fo sho.
