Re: Theismann out, Jaws in on MNF
true. I just feel like Jaws and Tom Jackson put their former teams on such a pedestal that they lose objectivity when they talk about them. I didn't get that sense from Theismann, but it could be that I'm just a little biased on the subject.

I agree about Jaws, but I think Theismann is a bit bias too. Plus if you forget the biases and look at credentials Jaws is clearly the better choice.

Re: Theismann out, Jaws in on MNF
I don't have a problem with Jaws coming aboard, but it should be interesting to see how he makes the switch from breaking down film to breaking down a live game.
I like Joey T. too though, but I'm sure he'll land another gig pretty quick. |

Re: Theismann out, Jaws in on MNF
That is a good point, I will be interested to see that too. I just hope his knowledge will give a more technical aspect to calling games that us hardcore football fans might find good

Re: Theismann out, Jaws in on MNF
I see Jaws as a significant upgrade to Joe T. As a player, there's no question Theismann is the man but as an analyst that can articulate football knowledge Jaws crushes him.

Re: Theismann out, Jaws in on MNF
The real problem is ESPN. As has been mentioned those celebrity interviews are intolerable. I hoped when the game went to a "sports network" there would be less of that but there was twice as much.
Do they honestly believe that someone who doesn't like football is saying, "Jeeh, I wonder what celebrity is whoring themselves out this week? I'll tune in and find out." They need a producer with the guts to tell the corporate partners to go eff themselves. Jaws is great with the film breakdowns but will he have time during the game to get those points over? It will really be tough if he has to compete with the pool boy from Desperate Housewives. (Is there a pool boy on Desperate Housewives?) It seems like there would be. Pool boys, lawn boys, milkmen, etc.

Re: Theismann out, Jaws in on MNF
I know a lot of people on this site don't like ProFootballTalk.com, but every Tuesday they would do a little blurb calling out "Joey Sunshine's" gaffs from the previous night's broadcasts. I always loved reading that. Oh well. I loved Theismann as a Redskin, but he is biased (for example, he was the only ESPN analyst to pick the Skins to win the SuperBowl last year), and wasn't very good in the booth. He would make ridiculous overstatements and ending up looking dead wrong quite often....

I know, but I love some good ol' fashioned homerism every now and then.

I'm resisting the urge to respond here. I would just say that everyone needs to take a step back and not look at this property as a game on ESPN but rather a primetime show on a Disney network.

Re: Theismann out, Jaws in on MNF
Yeah I hear ya. I think Jaworski's Philly bias will be more than offset by his knowledge of the game. He is as good as their is in breaking down film. He'll be great on the telestrater explaining those replays...

and Joe wasn't when he called the Redskins game? The only announcer that is totally unbiased is Troy Aikman. I think he is one of the best on TV, and totally calls the games as he sees them. |

I love watching games called by Buck/Aikman. Great stuff.

Re: Theismann out, Jaws in on MNF
Never could stand Joey T as a color guy. I loved it when Paul Maguire (not much better) would thump Joey T time and time again on Sunday nights...
Jaws is fine, and will analyze the game better than Joey T. Most of the time I ignore what is being said unless there's a big play. TK wasn't an option to leave because he's there for comedic relief and for the amount of football he doesn't know. Another good color analyst is Moose Johnston. I honestly think he and Aikman took lessons from the same guy...
