Re: Skins stuck at No. 6?

At first we all wanted Allan Branch, then we wanted Gaines Adams, ESPN releases their aritcle on Okoye now we should draft him 6th? Has he actually replaced Gaines as the can't miss prospect? I don't know, seems as the national consensus is that Calvin Johnson is the truth. I don't want to defend not bolstering the line because we are sorely in need of help but no of us really no exactly how much it would cost to move up to 2 or 3. So wide reciever is not a pressing need, ok, but i don't want to walk away from the next Marvin Harrison with Randy Moss/Terrell Owens ability for a Tommie Harris. I should end by saying if the acquistion became to costly, ie. trading away a intergal part of the team then we should stand pat or trade back to bolster the D.

My point this entire time frame leading to draft day, has been hopefully we will Trade down and pick up, more picks.

However, I've also said if we stay at #6 Gaines Adams has a heck of an upside and ALL the tools to get it done. IMO if we stay at #6 he's the guy. I think DE would be my #1 choice, followed closely by a DT which would be my second choice.

I have 3 issues with Gaines Adams:

1) What becomes of Andre Carter? I've explained this point ad nauseum and so have many others.

2) Is pass rushing ability in DEs overvalued? We had a very strong line when Wynn and Daniels were the ends. Perhaps this is because while they werent dominant pass rushers, they were good pass rushers who were exceptional vs. the run compared to the expectation for the DE position. Maybe a guy like Carriker is the better of the two ends even despite not having incredibly gifted physical skill.

3) With as much of an unknown as Andre Carter is, doesn't it make more sense to fill the sure need now with Okoye, and reevaluate the DE situation when we know EXACTLY what we are looking for. This works hand in hand with point # 1 a bit. If you draft Adams, Carter's on the bench by 2008. What if we take Okoye and Carter gets 12 sacks this year? Wouldn't we look like geniuses for not taking a guy like Adams when Carter was more than adequate?

There are guys like Adams in every year's draft. He's good, but we don't need to take him. Theres a draft next year.

He's the 3rd best pick we could make at 6 after Carriker and Okoye, so I wouldn't be all that disappointed if we took him. He just doesn't make the most sense.
