didn't take him long to make a smart ass coment about the pick:

"And how about the Washington Redskins, who just about elevated redundancy to an art form, selecting LSU safety LaRon Landry, arguably the draft's top defender, with the No. 6 overall pick? Landry is a potentially brilliant player but, even with the resurgence of the safety position in the NFL, he may have been a luxury, given that Washington already has safety in Sean Taylor, the fifth overall pick in 2004. Washington is the first team to use two top-10 picks on safeties, a fact that mattered little to Landry.

"We should be a killer combination," Landry told ESPN.com by phone from his parents' home in Metairie, La. "I watched a lot of when he was in college, at Miami, although I haven't seen a lot of him in the pros. But he's one of the guys I've tried to emulate during my own career. On my visit with the Redskins, I met with (defensive coordinator) Gregg Williams. He seemed like a perfectionist, but also a real smart guy, so he'll figure out a way to use both of us. I'm not worried about us being the same kind of player." "

I agree......I wanted to take a D-lineman also, DT/DE either would have been OK, but as we got closer to draft day it became obvious that the team did not see the value they were looking for from any of the top prospects. They decided to take what they considered to be the best defensive player available in Landry. I can live with the pick, but hope we make an effort to improve some along the d/line as the preperation continues.

Same for Calvin Johnson. If he were still available at sixth overall we would've drafted him. CJ was likely the only player we had ranked ahead of Landry.

He has had top 10 defenses in the past w/o the rushes coming off the line. I'll agree it will help but he knows his D. Last year we had to many injuries on the line and in the back field to do what he wanted to do. hopefully this year we will have fresh legs out there on most plays and still be able to get the rush.
You still need talent at defensive line. I don't care how clever a defensive coordinator says his scheme is -- you can't have bums at defensive tackle and defensive end.

Right now, Cornelius Griffin and Andre Carter are simply adequate. They're not stellar, and nobody in the front four gets penetration anymore. If we stand pat with what we have, it's going to be a long season. Let's hope they have more tricks up their sleeve for the D-line.

I was hoping to address the needs of our D-line but I can certainly live with this pick. Once Gibbs said that they would take the best player available instead of plugging holes I knew they would go with Landry.

Re: It's Landry!

This draft has left me feeling empty. It's so hard to watch all the other teams in the NFL getting better at multiple positions while we basically are standing still and just getting a year older.

I would have rather seen us address the defensive line, but I'm not totally against LaRon Landry as a player. He may be good for us for years. My problem is he's the only guy we added today.

There are 31 teams around the NFL who got better today. I don't feel like we did.

It's a good thing we've got a couple of great tackling safeties. With our defensive line the way it is, we're going to need them.

I just hope that we can add more depth at the d-line WITHOUT giving up one of next years picks.

I have a feeling we have learned the hard way. With that being said I do believe next years picks are safe and we will have a FULL draft.

Yeah, watching guys like Aron Sears, Chris Houston, Steve Smith go later then expected was so tough. With all the depth this year it was not an opportune time to have no picks.
