I agree. Archuleta was supposed to be the same thing for our defense but he was miserable in coverage, fitting more into a scheme where he plays in the box instead of cover 2. However, I do get the impression that Landry is more of a hybrid, a guy who excels in zone coverage, makes interceptions, and clobbers people too. His one susceptibility could be man coverage, which hopefully our safeties will not be asked to do much.

I believe in 2000 or we had two defensive lineman (Bruce Smith and Marco Coleman) each finish with 10+ sacks. Quite simply, our DL was good in 04 and 05.

We were a much better defense across the board too, it wasn't just the DL that dropped off, but the DL had the biggest and most significant dropoff of any position.

That is what happens when there is no youth around to replace the aging guys though. We should have forseen this three years in advance, but we STILL have yet to address the DL.

I have high hopes for Lloyd in 2007, but his problems went way beyond a hat. His overall attitude changed. It's like Portis said on the John Thompson show, you keep offering to help and he keeps turning his back. At some point it's like "why even bother with him"

Do you think he will ever develop both the maturity and physical consistency to make him worth keeping around?

Seattle and Oakland got 4th rounders for their WR mistakes. Couldn't we find someone willing to take Lloyd? I agree with everything else you said though. We could answer some DL depth with UFA. Big fan of Noland Burchette from VA Tech. Needs some polishing but could be a great 3rd down rusher.

I agree with GTripp here on our DL. Yeah it's practically the same D-Line as in past years, but they're older and injury prone.

We really don't have depth at DE, and if someone goes down... we have no pressure.

It looks like he will be much better in coverage than Archuleta. Bottom line is they took the best defensive player available when no one was calling the FO to trade up.

I agree that we need to let the young players develop their skills. You can't have it both ways.

Who knows, maybe he lights it up this year and proves all the doubters wrong. If I can speak for them, we hope you're right. But don't try to pin us down on some sort of inconsistency with building through the draft. The people who criticize Rogers aren't bitching because he wasn't a high-priced has-been. We think it's time for him to stop doing the victory dance when a receiver who has beaten him drops the ball, and maybe start catching a few interceptions here and there.

In other words, step the hell up and start playing like a #9 overall pick should play. Then there'll be more passengers on your Carlos Rogers train.
