If you want to experience Linux just download the Ubuntu CD, pop it into your computer and try it's Live CD feature. I've been using Linux both at home and at work for nearly 5 years and I'm definitely please with it. The only sticky points I ever come across concern MS Word documents that I have to deal with. While Open Office does a good job of opening word documents, these docs look a little funky at times.
