In the old days they all smoked. Nicklaus stopped smoking in front of the cameras in the early 60s. Palmer, Hogan, Jones - all avid smokers. I remember seeing highlights of NFL coaches smoking on the sidelines, even players smoked at half-time apparently. Plus you'd have guys like Cronkite, and Carson smoking during their telecasts. And of course, there's this

Yeah I think that is why he was smoking soo much. He was very nervous, but kept his game up. It was funny the first time the tv cameras caught him smoking.
