I would only want Cowher if Grimm and the rest of the most recent Steeler SB Champ staff came over. Because I am not convinced it was all Cowher that led to their last Super Bowl team.

The Steelers also do a great job in the draft, something we are just now getting better at.

That argument about the staff or the coach is as old as the chicken or the egg.

MAN.... COWHER IN DC... THAT WOULD BE AMAZING....

Remember, Cowher won year in and year out... his staff was always being pulled to be head coaches, his players were gone to free agency, and Bill RARELY missed the playoffs. Your crazy thinking he only did it because of Grimm.

Cower's whole philosophy is so close to Schotenheimer's. Would Danny really want that again?

Cowher was Marty's coordinator before becoming the Steeler head coach.

Danny wants big name coaches and winners.... Cowher is both.

Bring on BILL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Cowher Talking to Skins about Job in '08?

A guy like Cowher is going to be in very high demand in NY and Cleveland next year after they jettison their dud- head coaches. Given that demand and his leverage over the market, I suspect Cowher is going to want full control over football decision making, which leaves no room for Gibbs or Cerrato. He'll also likely want his own staff and to switch to a 3-4 defense which he used for his entire tenure in Pittsburgh. Do we really want that much turmoil and turn-over in the coaching staff AGAIN?

Personally, I think BC is a fantastic coach, I just don't want to have to sit through 2-3 rebuilding years and new systems, especially if we improve to a 10+ win team this year why blow it all up? I'm with the naysayers...stay inside the organization if Gibbs leaves and provide some kind of continuity if at all possible.

A denial doesn't mean much, just means they don't want the issue to become public if it was true. I for one hope that they are at least thinking about it. I don't think our asst HC's are good candidate material.

I might be crazy, but you cant read. Read my post, I said the entire staff and GM.
You also need to check your facts, you are incorrect in saying he won year in and year out, they did not, including a long three year stretch where he did not make the playoffs.
1998...7-9
1999...6-10
2000...9-7
2003...6-10
2006...8-8

Add to the fact the Cowher's Steelers year in and year out were one of the most talented teams in the NFL and only have one Super Bowl to show for it.

Unfortunately Cowher wasted a lot of time on Kordell Stewart. And despite that still won 7 or more games in I believe 12 out of his 14 years in Pitt. That's a lot more than we can say about our Skins over that span. Hell, Gibbs has 3 times more Super Bowls than Cowher, yet Cowher never lost 11 games in a season. Joe did just that last year. I think it all depends on how we do in '07. If we make the playoffs and win a game or two, I think Joe will come back for his final year. If we miss the playoffs and manage only 6 or 7 wins, I could see a switch.

And if by some chance Cowher did come to DC, there is no chance he would bring Russ Grimm, or Ken Wisenhunt with him. They aren't leaving Arizona after one season.

a long stretch of 3 years?? I would take a 3 year drought anytime. we have made the playoffs i think once since 99? that is 1 in 8 seasons. and lets see the 9-7 year would have gotten you in the playoffs in the NFC.

So Matty, who do you hate more -- Spurrier or Norv?

That's easy, Spurrier.

Norv at least got the team to the playoffs once and even won a playoff game.

Spurrier had no business coaching in the NFL. None.
