There's obviously some of the world's top engineers working at these mines, I'm sure if there were better ways to get the supplies up there they would have thought of something by now.

Exactly.
While it would work fine in the summer, the mines are open all year round. I doubt "daisy crushing truckers" would have the same ratings.
