Shockey signed a 5 year 26 million dollar deal a couple of years ago I believe. I got to think if Cooley has a year like I mentioned, his agent will be looking for something around what Shockey got - maybe even more. Will the Skins pay that kind of money for a Tight End? |

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
They better if they paid 31 mil. for Archuleta's mediocre ass. As for Cooley if he wants to test free agency I will be extremely disappointed. There's a lot of teams out there with a lot more cap space than us and all it could take is one of them to offer a crazy insane contract to Cooley and he could be gone. Dockery got 49 mil from a team that is known for being one of the cheapest teams in the league. Everybody in free agency that has a reputation for being a solid player is getting big money.

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
Cooley would have the most worthless agent in the world if they went ahead and signed a contract extension. Cooley and his agent will take note of how smart Dockery's agent was and wait for his market value to peak. It's not all about when the Redskins front office decides to extend a player's contract.

Cooley will get paid, don't worry.
Right now just isn't a great time, the front office needs to save some room for an emergency or if a surprise name hits the wire. |

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
There are two players who would make me sick to see them in another team's colors: Cooley and Taylor.

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
With the way the league is today it's probably going to happen to both at some point.

Hopefully not until both are in their mid 30's and are on the decline though.

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
I'm not worried. Cooley will be resigned no matter what the price is. It always looks like we don't have any money to spend against the cap and Snyder always works contracts and we go shopping.

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
I'm not saying anything other than what I already posted lol. Maybe his agent is telling Cooley to wait, but then again Cooley himself told the press that he's not even dealing with it, he's letting his agent handle it. Maybe Cooley really does want to go out and get a shitload of money in free agency, idk, or maybe Cooley likes being a Redskin and wants to stay here, even though he knows he can get big money elsewhere.

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
to me, its strictly up to Cooley, and where he wants to play. the money is probably going to be close to the same everywhere. right around 5 years, 25 million. maybe around a 8-10 million dollar bonus. hopefully he wants to stay

As for Sean Taylor we still have a couple years on his deal so they are not going to touch him before Cooley, but I think they will get both resigned. |

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
From JLC:
The Skins And Dock Were On Different Planets The chasm between the Redskins and Derrick always existed, but I didn't realize just how great the difference was between their offers and Buffalo's until tonight. Howard and I spoke to some team sources and what they told us was pretty remarkable. I'm not going to post the numbers here, but they'll be on the web later tonight I imagine as we update our stories and definitely in most editions of the paper tonight (although one edition has already gone to print by now if you can believe that). The Bills deal was exponentially greater than anything the Redskins were dangling. Even had Dock got the kind of deal I thought he might as of Thursday afternoon - $12 mil guaranteed, $5 million ish per season - it wouldn't have been close. |

Re: Front Office - Why isn't Cooley extended?
I would hope they do the deal by Christmas. It really is up to Cooley. If he wants to go, he can probably get more money from someplace else. I just hope that Snyder doesn't get it into his head to be chincy with the guy. I think he has a tendency to lose sight of the big picture when the negotiations get tough. I guess this will be the great non-football sub-plot of the year. (Let's hope so anyway)
