I work at a major hospital in San Antonio and spoke to one doctor about this and this is what I learned from our conversations:
"It mainly hinges on how bad the femoral artery was damaged. If they can keep him from bleeding out long enough to repair it then he has a pretty good shot. Not a good situation anyway you look at it. The fact that they were able to get him to a hospital before he did bleed out is Huge. That artery can pump out 3-5 liters a minute so considering the average human has about 5-6 liters in there entire body its very important to stop the bleeding at once."
