When I was in medical school, one of the surgery department heads used to berate any students who were ever late. He used to say that if you're 5 mins late to a code (when a patient "flat-lines")--there's only one person you should call at that point--the pathologist for an autopsy.

Brain cells start dying under 5 minutes. The longer ST experienced cerebral hypoxia--obviously the worse his current and longterm prognosis.
