That's a good memory. I thought it was 88, then I looked it up, and sure enough he signed a 3 year 1.1 million deal in Feb. of 1989. He played only 1 year for us though (1989).

You can take Sparano off that list. He has already interviewed for the Miami job, he is a "Parcells guy", Jeff Ireland loves him. And Miami interviewed Vikings DC Leslie Frazier yesterday, thereby satisfying the conditions of the Rooney Rule.

Re: Who is Next?

If you go outside the organization, don't hire some washed out dope like Cowher. His best days are behind him and by my lights they really weren't that great anyway. Based on the support he consistently gets for the job, I can only assume that some people like losing playoff games. If its not Williams, who I think has earned a shot, then you should look for a 40ish assistant that has some distinguishing leadership skills that go beyond systems, x's and o's, or the fact that his current team happens to be hot right now. This will be an interesting test to see if Snyder still suffers from big-name-itus.

Re: Who is Next?

Why all the love for Cowher? 1 SB in 14 years? Numerous 1 and done in the playoffs? Thinking Kordell Stewart is starting QB material? Or maybe it was the genius way he let Dick LaBeau (SP?) put together great defenses and then take credit.
Cowher + Skins = 08 record of 3 wins. Maybe in four years he'll have "his guys" in place and we can be at 9-7 again.
Haven't we learned our big name lesson here? I'd rather have Todd Bowles or Jim Bates over BC. Of course, I feel that GW can get us in the playoffs again next year and be a playoff contender for years to come.

Re: Who is Next?

From King's list I like the sound of the Schwartz guy, maybe just for his economics background. Probably wouldn't fit w/Snyder though.

I'm still in the GW camp though.

I think the positives in Cowher's favor (right or wrong) are that when people think of him they think perennial playoff contender, overachiever (worked with a much more stingy ownership, imagine what he could do with an open checkbook), stability, no-nonsense attitude.

Re: Who is Next?

Daniels just interviewed on nbc4 said that it would be tough to bring anyone in and said "I don't think you should bring anyone new in. I think you should build on what you got...nobody deserves it more than greg and i would like to see him as the next head coach". I think Phillip speaks for most of the players. They want GW. He even said the offense and the special teams really respects GW. Daniels said bringing in a new head coach would be hard on the players.

Re: Who is Next?

i Personally want Greg Williams to be head coach with Al still in control of the offense. We saw what Jason Campbell is gonna be and what the offense looked like with Todd Collins at the controls. If Al leaves I'm afraid that Jason's development will set back from trying to learn a new offense. I wanna see the staff stay intact with Greg being promoted. We all should hope that Danny doesn't break up the band. We are closer than alot of people think. Consistency and stability is what makes teams good. I'm not ready to go through all this rebuilding crap again. Anyways does anyone or has anyone heard when they are gonna be actively looking for the next coach.

Which means that if they bring in Cowher, he'll have to ship out half the players because they won't "his guys". That means a lot of losing for the foreseeable future. I think it would be a big mistake to pass Williams over. Unfortunately its the sort of mistake I would expect from the current ownership group.

Who else is there? I'm leaving college coaches off this list, I truly hope we don't go in that direction.
If GW doesn't get the job...Ron Rivera, coaching LBs in San Diego this year. DC for Chicago 2004-2006, that was a pretty good D. Diverse defensive background (Buddy Ryan, Tampa-2, 3-4 in SD). Got shafted by Bears, probably conflict with Lovie Smith. A little young, but regarded as a very good defensive mind.

After hearing Snyder talk today I don't see him bringing in a new guy from the outside. It's probably GW's job to lose. "If it ain't broke don't fix it" were Snyder's words today.

Re: Who is Next?

GW as HC and promote the DL coach to D-Coordinator. Crap what was his name....he use to coach for the Bears and was up for a few head coaching jobs a couple of years ago....and well thats all I know about him.
