RIP Justin Skaggs!
I am so happy to have been able to meet him in Carlisle during TC and purchase a game worn jersey of his last winter... never did I know we would end up losing yet another 'Skin star too early.....

Welcome to the board!

That's awesome. How was he when you met him, did he say anything memorable to you?

Thank you for the welcome - came over from ExtremeSkins, hopefully I can actually get a word in on this site and share any thoughts, stories I may be able to contribute towards our beloved 'Skins.

Justin Skaggs was great! when my girlfriend (now wife) met him outside of the locker room/gym area at Carlisle. He was always smiling after practice, always happy to simply have the opportunity he was granted. I liked him because (and I'm sorry if this isn't PC, but...) I could relate to him. He was 6 foot nothing, 170 lbs and white - sorry but he was someone that made me say "WOW! He's in the NFL!!!". I kind of told him that when we talked and I asked for his autograph.

My wife and I were still there when he came out of the facility in street clothes, we talked again. I asked him about playing for a small school, asked if he thought he really could contribute and what made him continue to press on. He seemed to have all the right answers and I cannot forget just how happy he was to have someone talk to him, that knew a bit about his college career and took the time to listen.

We walked with him to a small restuarant - wife (to be) had ice cream since it was boiling hot as always during TC! - Justin grabbed something to eat, said thanks for talking and hoped to see us around again, to make sure we said hi if we saw him. He ended by saying "I'll remember you if I see you, I never forget faces... we're not that famous around here", as he smiled and left.

When I read about his death I was simply taken back - even more so then the recent passing of Sean who I was a huge fan of, as we all were. Having actually spent almost 30 min. in total with Justin made it seem 'real' to me that he was gone and I am very happy with some of the other conversation we had that I will not get into (this novel is long enough).

When I saw his jersey last year at the tent sale and said "I HAVE TO GET THIS" the guys behind me just laughed..... if only they had an idea.

This is why I'm a 'Skins fan, their family in a way, even in the smallest amount.

HAIL!!!

Great story. I find that the Redskins have something about them which makes them unique to other NFL organizations. I haven't heard of a recent story where a Redskin has been a complete asshole. They've always gone out of their way for the fans, and it's great to here that Justin here was no exception.

What a sad story to hear of his passing, and I'm glad you came on here to share your experience with us. It's interesting to hear how these players influence those around them. Maybe you should consider letting the family know how great Justin was to you and your wife, I'm sure that they would appreciate what you have to say.

One this is for sure. You'll never see me over at extremeskins, but feel free to come by as often as you'd like. Thanks for the story, hope to see you around here more often.

Wow, great story.

I loved Justin Skaggs both with the NFL and the AFL. Such a tragic loss. RIP Justin, RIP Kevin Mitchell, RIP Sean Taylor. Get Well Soon Taylor Gibbs, Ron Springs, and Holly Bugel
