THis may sound sexist, but I don't listen to women who report on sports that they can not play. Sorry.

She doesnt like Snyder, and she doesnt know what she is talking about. Never mind her, Spags would be a great coach here.. Fassell too

That is perhaps because it is blatantly sexist and more than a bit ignorant. I'm going to go out on a limb and say that a good number of sportswriters never played the game at any meaningful level, and a lot of the best athletes in the world SUCK as commentators/writers (Emmitt Smith can't even speak coherently, I'd hate to read anything he wrote). Attack Jenkins on her substance (or lack thereof), not her gender. I'm only stating the obvious, but give me a break.

It is what it is, but at the same time, where else in the world do we let people with no experience in an arena consistently write errant reports and bad mouth and organization in which that person has had no idea on whats is good from the ground up? Sports is the only place that we tolerate it, and I am not sexist, not by any means. Like I said the statement may sound that way, but realistically, I wouldn't want to listen to someone comment on politics who hasnt been involved in that arena. That also goes for science, religion, and, in this case, sports.

People have made the same comment about John Clayton from ESPN. Matter of fact, when he and Sean Salsbury(sp) go at it on the shows, Sean makes fun of him for commenting on a game he NEVER played. It just so happens that this OP/ED is written by a woman, and whether we like to admit it or not, gender does play a certain, small part in why she lacks ethos to comment on football.

I apologize if I offended any of the forum members, but I stand by my comments.

Peace

You do realize that Salisbury is just joking with Clayton right? And he has total respect for him and his knowledge of the sport, regardless of whether he played professionally or not.

Since all we know you here as is the dude who throws Chipotle burritos into the stands at Verizon Center, then gets the inside scoop on Vilma for Portis (or maybe it was Betts) trades from George Michael we'd all appreciate it if you kept your discussions on this board to burritos and trades that don't happen...doesn't make much sense does it? And neither does your rant against "those that have not been involved in that arena."

Wow. Well that pretty much rules out reading any newspaper or watching the news. Stupid journalists never were the President of the US, CEO of Microsoft, a soldier in a war, or a cloud in the sky (for those who dare to cover the weather).

I feel where you are coming from, but most of the journalists who write those columns DO have experience. In brief, newspaper sections has "specialized" reporters who have some type of experience to write on. Some are hands on, and some aren't. However, I still do look at every newspaper article, especially those on politics and religion, with a certain degree of reasonable suspicion.

So I do watch the news, but I dont read into it too much. However, I understand your perspective

Your comment was that women shouldn't do men's sports. Why would you single out women? Did Curt Menafee, Bob Costas, John Clayton, Lenny Pastabelly, Mike Wise, Tony Kornhieser, Michael Wilbon, or Jason La Canfora play pro football? Of course not. So, yes, it's sexist, but moreover, it's just a stupid comment to make.

Ok, this is getting out of hand, so Im going to say this, while you all make valid points, you consistently seem to be missing MY point. Yes, all of these names that you have mentioned are great journalists, but journalism has never qualified anyone to do anything but "comment" on a matter, rather than "criticize" the issue. Criticism is reserved for participants (e.g. coaches, players, and front office) who have a deeper understating of the intricacies of the game. Furthermore, no full-time journalist, no matter how great he/she is, has ever been considered for head coaching role (on any level in any sport) or that of the analyst in the booth. In all cases it is generally an announcer/commentator and an analyst, who has had some affiliation with the sport in question.

I am not picking on women either, because the comments I made do go to both men and women. I just thought that most would pick up on the implicit part of my statement, but yes, its does go for men too. If Pat Summit were to give me some pointers on how to coach, I'd be eager to hear them, and the same thing goes if i could get some pointers on jump shots from Diana Turassi As a result, I hold in "higher regard" the opinions of John Madden(who's game I have played since it debuted), Troy Aikman, Jimmy Johnson, Sonny Jurgs, Joey T, Howie Long, and Steve Mariucci because they have played pr coached. They all have more credibility to criticize, and they always will. To explain further, that is the larger view of the comments relating to SJ.

So because of these things, just to clarify again, I am weary of any man or, in this case, woman who comments on anything that they haven't played. I shouldn't have said I don't listen to them because I do. I retrospect, I hold their comments in lower regard when compared to those who have never played, and they (op/eds) have to prove more in their arguments to me because of the aforementioned points.

I assume there are exceptions?
