Re: Spagnuolo stays with Giants!

IMO after week two of this season Spags was writting his ticket out of NY. So he got hot over the past six weeks and won the SB, that doesn't mean he is going to be a great HC or even a great DC. He had one great year. IMO I would rather have GW as a DC then Spags he has better record in the long run.

His defense wasn't looking so good when Minn ran them over for 41 points. The Giants defense had some really really bad games. Yeah they got hot when it mattered most but I'd take Greg Williams over this guy anyday of the week. Glad your staying in NY.

I'm inclined to agree, and sometimes we as fans only remember one's latest successes' or failures, and forget what happened in between. If I had to make a choice between Spagnuolo and Williams, it would be Williams by a landslide.

Let's see how much Spagnuolo will be in demand at the completion of his new three year deal in NY.

Re: Spagnuolo stays with Giants!

I think it's funny when people say, "ohhh, the Giants had some awful games, Spags is overrated, their D really wasn't that good, ra ra ra." It was his first year w/ the Giants. He had to implement a new system, and as the season went on their D stepped up HUGE.

That said, I don't really think Spags ever had any intention of leaving the Giants this year anyway. They have a ton of young up and coming players on that team via excellent drafting, they just won a Super Bowl, Coughlin and the rest of the staff is staying intact... Why leave? IMO he interviewed w/ the Skins just to make sure the Giants opened up their wallet. And they did. He's now the highest paid coordinator in football.

If you just won a Super Bowl, have an excellent team coming back next year, and you can get head coach $$ as a coordinator, why leave?

The opportunity to be a HC does not come along every day, depending on success or failure he may not get another chance.

I agree, but it's not like this guy is a long time coordinator who's been getting spurned year in and year out for a HC job. He had been a position coach his entire career until 2007. He's got great personnel in NY and now a fully implemented system there. I don't see any reason why he won't be highly regarded next season as a HC candidate. And in the meantime he gets to defend a Super Bowl title and get HC $$ while doing it. He probably has a great connection and sense of loyalty to his players after what they pulled off this year. And he's got the paycheck now too. He made the right choice IMO.

I agree 100% with this statement. Look at Dave Campo, Marvin Lewis and Norv Turner (Turner was OC but same concept). I'm sure there were more but my point is that these were considered genius coordinators and had/are having mediocre careers as HC. We need to be cautious with our next hire, especially if he is young like Spags. I would rather have a band-aid coach like Fassel to hold us together with the same basic concepts until someone we cant live without comes along than to sign a huge deal with an unproven coach and be stuck with him.

I hear what you are saying but good thing that JK Cook was not like that with a young J.Gibbs! Or there would not be three Championships for our side!

Well Gibbs had at least 3 years experience as an offensive coordinator when we named him head coach
