I think Safety is a HUGE priority. Let's take a look at the Safeties we currently have on our roster:
LaRon Landry- We all know this kid is going to be good for years to come.
After Landry the talent drastically drops....
Reed Doughty- Showed some promise last year, but I am not sold on him being a starter. I think Doughty is more suited for a backup role.
Vernon Fox- Career special teams player. Decent backup safety.
Pierson Prioleau- Free Agent that will probably follow GW to Jacksonville.
Omar Stoutmire- Free Agent who is 33 years old, and likely to be gone.
So if Prioleau, and Stoutmire depart that leaves us with 3 safeties two of whom (Doughty,Fox) probably are not starting caliber safeties in this leauge. Even if Doughty was able to prove himself and start this year we would still need to add at least one more safety for depth. So I think either way you look at it we need to address the safety position.
