Re: Anthony Mix Must Be Our Man
Well we won't know until we get a chance to see him in action IMO. JC is really high on this kid, and the best I recall he only got one or so shots at WR last year and I don't remember if the ball even went his way. So you never really know what you have until you have earned a chance to play.
Could be a total dud, could be the next Randy Moss.....whos to say? However, I did like what I witnessed on special teams from Mix last season. And I would like to see him get some playing time. If he puts in the work and proves he deserves a shot to get some playing time at wide out, then I'm sure we will all find out.

They decided to keep Tyree too, another guy that plays teams & didn't get a lot of opportunities at wr. Can't argue w/that move now. |

If the FO is banking on Mix becoming a legit threat, they're doing a disservice to the team. Zorn has stated that Randle El will move to the slot, so we're in need of a #2 receiver. Caldwell isn't that guy, IMO. Hell, I don't see Moss as much more than a #2 right now. I don't believe there is a true #1 receiver available right now, but Johnson and Hackett are capable of being #2 receivers. I'm not saying that I necessarily want either of them, but something needs to happen. As for the draft, I feel like this draft is full of #2 receivers from the bottom of round 1 to about the mid 3rd round. I could live with anyone from Limas Sweed to Jerome Simpson. I think if nothing is done in free agency, 2 receivers need to be selected in this draft. At this point, I think I would probably select a WR in the first and 5th rounds of the upcoming draft rather give Hackett the money he will command. The problem with that is that I don't believe that anyone (sans Sweed) is ready to come and contribute on Day 1. It's a sticky situation, but if they re-sign Caldwell and then draft a kid it might be the best route, the problem then is that they have Moss, Caldwell, Randle El (none of whom play teams), Thrash, Mix, Espy, and the Rook that's 7 receivers. I think Thrash and Espy/Mix could go and the other of Espy/Mix should end up on the practice squad. The problem with that is, you need to draft a big receiver then or you roll with a bunch of small guys should Mix not make the team. |

Re: Anthony Mix Must Be Our Man
It seems as the front office is content with the recieving corp we have,as well as i. We need help on both sides of the line.Offense needs to get young depth, and the defense needs to get faster and stronger in the middle ,along with younger.Corner position is in desperate need right now.Remember 06' when injuries hurt our backfield, last year was pretty healthy.

No guarantees on Mix, but if we get Hackett we don't need any WRs in the draft. Let's give this guy a shot and if he develops and can be productive in the Red Zone great, if not look to the draft next year for WRs. If we don't get Hackett then we probably target a big, physical WR in the 2nd or 3rd round.

I wanted to see Espy emerge but after his injury last year I would be surprised if he can make the team if we draft anybody at wr. |

Re: Anthony Mix Must Be Our Man
Vinny Cerato says they will probably draft a reciever in the 2nd or 3rd round. So, odviously it will be someone we develop. Dont forget Vinny found TO, in the third.

It was a "Jump to Conclusions" mat. You see, it would be this mat that you would put on the floor... and would have different CONCLUSIONS written on it that you could JUMP TO.

But are you going to bank on Anthony Mix making that kind of leap? He's got size, he has decent straight line speed, but he has little agility/quickness and hence has trouble separating from DBs, hence has trouble getting on the field. People in this thread are starting to sound like the kid is the second coming of Plax or TO. Hell, for him to put up #3 WR numbers this season would be a major leap from him. If you're the GM, and you're counting on Anthony Mix to make an impact, you should be fired. What you guys are doing is HOPING. But to say we shouldn't address WR because Anthony Mix is going to make everything OK, that would be a very poor decision.
