At least Wilbon raised a legitimate issue (read full here Wilbon: Dying young, and black, in America - NFL - MSNBC.com), and did it a little better than most (and I was pissed at him too, even wrote him a long email and wrote something to LaConfora too Guest Blog - Ehren - Redskins Insider) but apart from some of his hyperbole ("I wasn't surprised...") at least he had a point to make and suggested a larger context was necessary to understand this tragedy. I think that if you actually take some time to contemplate what he was saying, in light of the little bit of perspective we now have, it was not totally absurd. The reflexive response seen in the immediate aftermath of the crime from blowhards like Cowherd et al. (and even Wilbon) was off the mark in that they ignored everything we knew (or had a sense of and learned more about) about Sean Taylor (the blog from JLC on his conversation with Renaldo Wynn comes to mind Renaldo Wynn And Sean - Redskins Insider). But what you have to appreciate, and what is perhaps more tragic, is that the last part of Wilbon's column does seem to ring true. Quote:

I thought the same thing. Its really a shame that not many people knew the real sean until after his passing.

<<I really lost a lot of respect of Michael Wilbon. He should've come out and made some type of apology. But I guess he's gotten too big for that.>>
Ditto to that bro. I'm still pissed at Wilbon. Sean was a special dude. We celebrate the same birthday...I will always say a prayer for him on that day. Reading that article really brought it all back.

Re: New Details About Taylor's Murder
It really changed the season for me (and I am sure many of you) when Sean was killed. I really have not had the same interest level in things..........football since.
I find it disappointing that it no longer has media appeal, and is basically forgotten about now that the "new" is gone from it. It continues to amaze and disgust, how cheap life is in this country, and how tawdry, and indifferent we can be to the loss of it.

Re: New Details About Taylor's Murder
I still don't get why they broke into the bedroom and shot Taylor. It doesn't sound like a burglary gone wrong to me...it sounds like they were there for a reason other than burglary.

Re: New Details About Taylor's Murder
Supposedly, the knife was left on the bed because the defendants were using it to try to pry things open. They went into the bedroom because that is where Taylor kept his money. They told police they did not expect Taylor to be home. So, they were going after the money in the bedroom, ran across Taylor, and fired in panic. At least, that's the most plausible theory. There doesn't seem to be any indication they intended to kill Taylor.

Re: New Details About Taylor's Murder
I guess that's the kind of world we live in today. It's so much easier to take something that's not yours, instead of working hard to get it. It's a damn shame, and it makes me really sad thinking about our country this way.
