If you have CP, Ladell Betts, Rock Cartwright, and Marcus Mason, why would you pick another running back, it makes no sense to waste a pick on an average running back when you already have guys way better than that.

if rodger- cromartie drops to the 21st pick i say we have to take him.... we need corners.... springs is old, rodgers is coming back from an injury if he can even play (i think he might be out for this season also) and he has never been that amazing for us.

I still really like Cason. I think he's going to surprise a lot of people at the pro level. I'd love it if he fell to us in the 2nd round.

Even with the hernia, still leaning toward Merling in the first round.

If I'm not mistaken Groves has experience as a 4-3 OLB. To me drafting him would give us the ultimate swingman. Or more of a rich mans Chris Wilson. Basically he could line up at DE on passing downs and fill in for whatever LB spot is open and eventually become a starting LB. So the message is don't sleep on Groves. He won't be a full time starter coming in but we'll find something for him within the next 2-3 years.

However from a pure DE perspective, Lawrence Jackson is my pick. And honestly he would be the second or third DE on my board after Long and Harvey. Merling is solid, but honestly he reminds me of Smoot's BOY Justin Smith. Stout against the run but little to medium pass rush ability. Jackson on the other hand got 10.5 sacks last year from the LE spot in a conference that favors offense, (as well as passing but still the OT's in that conference are groomed to become pass protectors).

Also as far as our potential Falcons dream trade scenario I came up with a rationalization. The Redskins have become extremely cheap so getting out of the first round is a must. The Falcons will hopefully draft Matt Ryan which will make our lives a lot easier.

So why would the Falcons trade back into the first round? I mean they have a possible true #1 Reciever in Roddy White who defied all odds with a 1,200+ yard season in 2007.

Well if the Falcons draft a QB then the next logical step would be find a LT to protect him. This draft is deep at OT so the Falcons can still find a potential franchise LT at 21 where as we're set at LT for the next 4 or 5 years. And as much as I would love Albert I would rather have 3 second round picks that could easily produce 3 starters within the next 2-3 years.

From what I can see the Falcons could take a look at Gosder Cherilus who played LT with Ryan last year at BC or they could go with an excellent pass blocker like Anthony Collins, though taking him at 21 would be way to early. Ironically they could also make a play for Albert.

They also might make a play at corner with the possiblity of a guy like Aquib Talib or Mike Jenkins being available at 21.

Oh yeah, guys I hate to burst your bubble, but in the eyes of the scouts DRC is 1337. So theres no way he falls to us at 21......sorry. Oh well, look on the bright side. Corners are so last season. Safetys are the new corners in todays NFL. Of course I'm still stumped how 4 corners from small schools/Kansas (who was a Basketball school before last year) found their way into the first round in the same year.

So Dirtbag359's current pipe dream goes as follows

Falcons 3rd overall - Matt Ryan - QB - BC
Falcons 21st overall - Gosder Cherilus - LT/RT - BC
Falcons 3rd Round 21st overall - Probably a LB or CB that I've never heard of.

Redskins 37th overall - Lawrence Jackson - DE - USC
Redskins 47th overall - Chilo Rachel - G - USC (Could just as easily be Carl Nicks but we'll go with Rachel for now)
Redskins 51st overall - Jordy Nelson - WR - Kansas State

Lol, USC is the Redskins new Miami. Ironically they could take 3 USC players in the second round with Terrell Thomas being available at CB.

I got no problems with L. Jackson, but the similarities to Justin Smith are part of what I like about Merling. I'm probably in the minority here, but I like what Phillip Daniels offers the team; an everydown versatile player who is a strong run defender on the edge as well as an effective pass rusher (underestimated due to the low sack totals). Except we're at a point where we need a younger, slightly more talented version and I feel like (now that J. Smith is not an option) that Merling would be the next big thing.

If DRC falls to us, which may happen as scouts have a harder time picking a small school guy in the top 15, we take him. If not, Im pulling for groves too. He gives us the most versatility for the pick, and in a year when we are pinching pennies, versatility will prove very prudent.

If we pick up an extra 3rd rounder from the compensatory draft pool, then we may wanna look at WR, OT/OG, CB in the first (Sweed, Albert, Jenkins).

Good post, but its still hard seeing us get rid of a 1st round draft pick even if we get on next year, it will look good NEXT year, but we will still have to deal with waiting, once again, to pick wayy into the 2nd. However, trading out of this first for more picksis a good look nonetheless.

Calais will probably drop to the second round, so I don't see why we should use a first rounder on him, we could pick up a WR or Olinemen instead.

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)

All right I'm willing to compromise on the corner position. If Mike Jenkins falls to us I wouldn't mind taking him. The guy has experience playing safety and is considered the second best corner in the draft. Character is obviously an issue, otherwise he wouldn't drop this far, but is obstructing an officer without violence really that big of an issue? Especially considering the string of violence we've seen among other NFL players. I would have to look into a little more, but as of now I have no problem with the character concerns.

I'm starting to believe though more and more that the Redskins first three picks will be a G, CB, and WR as the positions mentioned are relatively deep in the first round, with corner obviously being the deepest in terms of top teir prospects. And I only say relatively deep because there are a lot of guys we could take in the first three rounds.

Obviously this draft could go many different ways.

1st - Mike Jenkins
2nd - Jordy Nelson
3rd - Robert Felton (Reminds me a lot of Dockery) or Mike McGlynn (the most versatile OL prospect in the entire draft)

1st - Brandon Albert
2nd - Jordy Nelson
3rd - Charles Godfrey

1st - Devin Thomas or Limas Sweed
2nd - Chilo Rachel/Carl Nicks or Tracy Porter
3rd - Charles Godfrey or Roy Schuening/Mike McGlynn/Robert Felton

Re: (updated title): Make Your Day One Redskins Draft Selections (Rounds 1-2)

Over the last few weeks, I had wanted to Redskins to get one of the top recievers over 6'3" with 4.4 speed in the first round. But, if they could get 6'6" James Hardy with 4.46 speed in the second round, then Calais Campbell in the first round makes sense. Then, I expect the Redskins should try and use the possible compensatory pick in the second round some say they may get to go after a safety or defensive tackle.

1st round pick - Calais Campbell / DE / 6'8" 280 pounds
2nd round pick - James Hardy / WR / 6'6" 215 pounds
2nd round pick (compensatory pick) - Safety or defensive tackle

Ok, so the Redskins are expected to get a compensatory in the Third round and the seventh round for Derrick Dockery and Kenny Wright. Still, that gives us 8 draft picks, which is a nice haul compared to recent drafts.
