Re: S. Taylor tragedy compared against other sports..
I also agree u can't rank em, cuz this is never productive. It can only lead to disagreements and dishonoring the deceased. Also, from a logical standpoint each one of these tragedies was unprecedented and unique in its own right. Personally the one that affected me the most was obv ST's so I have an obvious bias. Outside of that, being a MD grad, the Len Bias incident almost brought MD athletics to its knees. I mean for God's sake, it had a huge public figure like Larry Bird breaking down in tears. It also served the purpose of bringing the ever-present drug abuse among athletes to the public limelight, which in the longrun was/is a good thing. There is no question it (as well as all of these events) had a huge societal impact.

Yea, I don't understand why you would compare and rank peoples deaths.

Re: S. Taylor tragedy compared against other sports..
It's hard to compare tragic events, because each one is so different. At the same time, it is ludicrous to blame ST's surroundings. This tragedy had nothing to do with growing up on the streets of Miami.
ST was killed by a random act of violence. Taylor was doing what anyone would do...he was protecting his home and family. By all accounts Taylor had turned his life around. Nothing pisses me more than to hear someone say Taylor's death was a result of his environment. Those that say this are just plain ignorant. Better end here, because this topic will cause me to get on a soapbox. |
