Re: my latest draft thoughts
Posted this in another tread, but I guess this is also a good place to put it:
So I guess my draft/what I want yet realistically see the Redskins doing goes as follows. I think at this point I have to many DE's but we'll see. 1st - Mike Jenkins - CB/S - South Florida (I mean I guess it's kind of like Miami) 2nd - Jordy Nelson - WR - Kansas (Only Reciever worth a look IMO after the 1st round, and despite his 3rd round grade I doubt the skins will be able to get him without trading up in the 3rd round, which is impossible without unloding one of next years picks) 3rd - Robert Felton - G - Arkansas (Reminds me a lot of Dockery and personally I believe hes a big part of the reason Arkansas had success running the ball) 3rd Comp - Wallace Gilbery - DE - Alabama (My favorite sleeper with 10 sacks and 27 TFL) 5th - Dennis Dixon - QB - Oregon or Colt Brenen - QB - Hawaii (Grrrrr do we really need to waste a pick on a QB) 6th - Rudolph Hardie - DE - Howard (Thanks to ThatGuy for bringing him to my attention) 7th - Jamie Silva - S - BC (Overachiever that might be picked about 10 picks ahead of where I'm projecting him here) 7th - Marcus Dixon - DE/DT - Hampton (Would give the Skins that 3 technique they're looking for) 7th - Marcus Monk - WR - Arkansas (He's like.....huge, but also productive especially for a 7th round pick) UDFA - Andrew Crummy - G - Maryland (Stephon Heyer.....Andrew Crummy, see the pattern?) Also as far as Guard is concerned, we've taken the 5th/6th round route in the past, and to my knowledge not one of those guys ever developed into anything. The only guy thats ever emerged is Stephon Heyer, and as you can see I predict the Redskins continuing the trend of developing an UDFA from Maryland for the second year in a row. This time around I believe its imparitive to draft a lineman within the first 3 rounds.

There's no doubt that Jenkins and Jordy Nelson fill two gaps on our team right now, but those are hardly the biggest gaps. There's a big probability that if we go this route, we have a 50% chance or better of not improving the team over the long haul here, and IMO the chance to land low risk talent on the edges does not justify taking potshot chances at filling long term holes on the lines. The issue here is that if we are to assume that Crummney, Hardie, Gilberry, Felton are the solution on our line issues, we have to play them as if we are just assuming that they will play like first or second rounders. We don't have to do that with a third corner or a third receivers. Of course, if you are right here and those guys turn out to be above average NFL starters, you've just made a hell of a draft. But is that something you want to risk the future of the team under Zorn and Campbell on? I just don't have the cajones to pull that ![]()

Re: my latest draft thoughts
Quote:
1. The DC thinks that building a defense begins at CB 2. Danny wants a big reciever and after Nelson there are no quality big men available. Plus Cerrato has been quoted by members here as saying that no reciever has been given a first round grade by our front office. On top of that the Redskins lost out on the Caldwell and Hacket sweepstakes. 3. We need a LDE that can possibly be a starter down the road. 4. The Skins don't shy away from drafting two guys at a particular spot as seen with DT and LB in recent years. 5. The Skins want a DT with pass rush ability, and I'll admit I didn't address that directly but two of those guys could possibly move inside and play the 3 technique. 6. The FO values a swing offenisve lineman that could possibly start in a year or two and have been pretty sucesful finding guys in the 3rd round. I'm with you, I want to see the Redskins adress the line. However based on the philosophies of the FO and coaching staff I put together the mock draft that you see here in this thread. If it was up to me then you would see a draft with.....actually ****, it's to hard to think for myself.
