Re: Vinny Says "Draft Day Trade? Trading Down More Likely."

We'll only get the benefit and value of trading down if a team approaches us on trading up. Unforntunately we will have to luck ourselves into that senario. I'm not counting on that to happen since those chances are long.

We should be resigned to that fact that we have the 21st pick in the draft and we'll be using it on a player.

Theres a good chance that you're right and we may have to resign ourself to the 21st pick. However I think that the more I look at the situation the more I see the Redskins finding potential suitors.

Another team I forgot to mention before now are the Jets. Now signs point to them taking Vernon Gholston (DE Ohio State) with the 6th pick. After that they have needs at CB, WR, and FS. All of these are positions that could be ripe when 21 roles around. Plus, as most of us know, the Skin's and Jets have a history when it comes to trades.

And speaking of trade history, we also have a relationship with the Bronoc's who pick 12th in every round. In that case, if the Bronoc's are somehow sold on Kentwan Balmer (DT UNC) over prospects like Pat Sims (Auburn) and Trevor Laws (Notre Dame) or feel the need to get one of the first teir Recievers to help Jay Cutler in his development in light of their problems with Brandon Marshall and the departure of Javon Walker, then the possiblity of a trade with the Bronco's could be realistic.

Of course a lot of our trade down options will depend on who's availabe at 21 on draft day. I wouldn't count on a trade like the one we made for the Bronco's 25th pick in 2005 a day or two before the draft (of course in this case we would be trading down). If we do trade down it'll probalby be when we're on the clock.

Speaking of trade history, the 49ers, Bears, Broncos, Jets, and Falcons all owe us huge favors.

I agree with the 49ers, Bronco's, and Jets (actually on that front we might be even), but what did the Falcons do, besides let us comeback from ~17 points after halftime back in 2003 (Went to that game by the way )? And the Bears, well we screwed them over on that one.

They got Lelie and we took Duckett off of their hands for them. Denver got our 4th. 3 way trade that we ultimately got the shaft on.

Chicago should have given up a higher draft pick for Adam. We just didn't fight hard enough for it. It's all about supply and demand. We had the supply and they were in demand. We control the price, not them. He would have been the highest paid special teamer in history until Chicago ponied up a 4th round pick.

As to Arch, the man was dead weight and everybody knew it. The fact we got a 6th for him was amazing to me.

As for owing favors, if we start chasing down teams who took advantage of our inept trades - well, I think New Orleans and Carolina come knocking on our door (the Ricky and Sean Gilbert trades).

I think Williams and Arrington was a fair swap, because we sure as hell didn't get anything else with all of those picks. Thanks Charlie!

By the way, my statements were mostly sarcasim, some truth, but mostly sarcasim.

Considering that the writing was on the wall that he would be cut, yes it was amazing. But what was more amazing was the Bears picked up the tab on a $5M bonus he was due in order to reduce our cap hit to a more manageable figure.
