Not sure if it was the fastest ever, but according to nfldraftscout.com he ran a 4.28. That's pretty darn fast.

He possibly ran faster at his pro day.

All this talk about his character seems to be stemming from 1 incident. Granted it's not a good incident, but who knows, the "common law" wife could have made it up cause she was being hormonal. To label the guy as poor character after 1 incident is not in good taste.
Then again, if you guys know of other incidents, I'd like to hear them, and I will change my judgement.

Point is, a ONE time issue isn't always true. I am in no way defending someone striking his wife, but why is there no pictures of her with a bruise or anything?
Also, people that strike women, don't do it once. They are habitual. Why is it this is the ONLY case of Mathis striking someone??? Just doesn't add up right now. I could be wrong (I hope I am not cause no woman deserves to be struck by a man) but why is everyone so eager to convict?

As for you theory on the recitative nature of this behavior, don’t worry, he’s a young man, there’s plenty of time to prove you right. Does your theory give a timetable when subsequent attacks should take place?

A LOT of domestic and even sexual cases have stronger testimony than what happened and there have been many many which were shown to be that way.. and also many that landed someone in trouble who shouldn't have been.

Duke Lacrosse case is a high profile one. I had a friend accused of rape by a girl and turns out her boyfriend found out (it was at a party) so she lied and that got found out.

On the flip side, I once called the cops while at my cousins' fathers house because of a guy screaming at his wife and her crying violently, though it didn't seem like any violence was going on, it was just over the edge for my comfort level. Their family got pissed at me because apparently they never got a permit to build another house on it (the one the couple was renting) and thought that they would get found out or something. They told me they always fight and there was nothing wrong. 5 months later, he killed her, and I wasn't big enough of a douche to say, "I told you so" but I very well could have.

At the end of the day, it can go either way, and unless you were there, you don't know what happened and neither do I, but it's not my deal to judge and accuse him of something that I know nothing about. Who knows if she was attacking him and he was trying to hold her off? Too much to speculate and I don't see why we have armchair eyewitnesses here.

Seems to me that there are a lot of people quick to condemn Mathis due to one unproven (but admittedly terrible if true) incident and a fight with a team mate (that is hardly a unique event in such a testosterone driven, aggressive sports environment). Why don't we give the guy a chance and see what happens? Everyone deserves a second chance, surely?

As has already been pointed out, Sean Taylor did not exactly have a shining record as a personal citizen and was involved in a some pretty reprehensible behaviour both on and off the field, but fans soon forgave him because of what he did on the field. Ditto Dexter Manley.

Mathis may turn out to be an ass but let's give him a chance and not condemn him before he even gets here. If he returns the opening kick off for a TD against the Giants on opening day will anyone be complaining about his so called 'character issues'? Didn't think so.

Man..this "common law" wife must have amazing powers to convert her imagination into physical choke marks on her neck...what a bee-och....either that or she asked a friend to choke her to make marks or her neck so she could drag this guys name in the mud.....and then decline charging him.

Some people aren't getting the point that it might not be 100% accurate. At this point, no one really knows.
If he did it, I don't want him. But have we NEVER heard of some woman making up a story???? (not saying she is, just saying) You also can't tell me that a girl 6 months pregnant isn't hormonal either.
At this point, its A- a 1 time incident, B- no real proof, C- unsure of how "red marks on neck" is being "struck", D- please provide a picture of the red marks so we can all see it as something that wasn't a hickey or a curling iron incident...or even a birth mark. Then maybe we can make a more accurate judgement. Right now, it's all hearsay and quite frankly I am concerned about people's insistance on being the judge and jury in this case, and ready to kick him out.

We're probably beating a dead horse here, but what 2 run ins are you referring to. Like I said in a previous post, I don't know much about this guy, so any link would be beneficial.

Also, getting in a fight with a teammate is nothing new, and nothing to make a comment about unless he drove to a players house after a practice to beat the poo out of him. Remember Michael Westbrook beating down Stephen Davis? I don't recall Westbrook being of poor character, just poor talent. Vince Young had issue with someone this past year and had a little fight, and a lot here think he's a kiss from heaven. Even Favre in his early days had a scuffle with a teammate and he is known as player friendly. What happens during heated practices / matches doesn't always mean a character flaw.

I will 100% agree beating a girldfriend is a character flaw, but there seems to be so little evidence at this point. I need it pointed out that I am not defending this guy, but I do think you need to PROVE guilt before slurring someone's name. This is not like speculating Barry Bonds took steriods, this is something far more serious. There needs to be proof, and right now, there is a red mark on a neck, and no real proof.

But like I said, I'd like to see a link to his previous run ins with the law if you got them please.
